We built this brooder box last summer from scrap lumber we had about and a new roll of hardware cloth. Happy to say that this year we had a broody hen raise 7 chicks to about 3 weeks old (then they were sold) and had zero issues from snakes! That is a huge win for me...
I think I know the answer, but don’t like it. Have some buff eggs due to hatch in 8 days, and noticed one of them had some dark green oozing on top of the egg. Picked out with gloves hand the ooze was soft, smelled awful, but wiped off with gloved hand. Candled, and clearly a chick is present...
