Hello can someone let me know how it goes and what to expect or any tips. My first time ordering chicks from the mail and have a few questions about this.
1. I'm confused about the last destination the chicks will arrive at. I have a USPS distribution center in the same city as my local USPS...
The #1 reason would be that the chicks are making a mess in the nest boxes. They are playing and pooping in the other nests while they wait for the mama to finish laying.
One of my hens hatched 8 chicks in May. They are about 8 weeks old now(45 days). She has started to lay again a week ago but she isn't weaning her chicks. Is this normal?
They are fully integrated into the flock and roost with the adults at night near mama. Mama hen used to be bottom of pecking...
No the 2 eggs she's sitting on are infertile. I just let her sit on them to encourage her to brood since I wanted her to raised the chicks when they hatch. After today, I think I will just finish the hatch in the incubator and sneak them under her and see how she fares. She is too...
I think I'll try giving her half the eggs then. I only have 10 eggs in the incubator. I'll be satisfied if I get atleast 4 chicks out of all this They are silkie eggs and so far they are all growing nicely from the candling as far as I can tell. She is currently sitting on 2 eggs. Does it matter...
I have been (first time)incubating some eggs I ordered online. I am on day 16. My BO also became broody 2 days ago and I can't decide if I should let her finish the job for me or keep using my incubator. She only just started laying in late November 2020. I'm just not sure if she will be a good...
I thought this too at first so I started supplementing oyster shells but that didn't solve the problem. I only brought up the nest size because they look so snug & compact when they are in there so I thought that might be the problem.
But I will try different bedding then if that fails I may...
It's just my brahmas causing this. They are always rearranging or fluffing up the bedding in the nest before they lay and if there happen to be an egg in there it gets damage. Currently using pine shavings, Is there any bedding I can use that they can't rearrange?
I bought and installed pre-built nesting boxes that is 10x10x10. I have barred rocks, RR, BO and brahmas. They are laying fine but I do occasionally find yolk inside the nesting boxes. I think the brahmas may be crushing the eggs when they go to lay.
I plan on making my own nesting boxes now...
Yes there was blood. One of the chick was really beatup and I seperated her too so she can fully heal up.
-They are all very peaceful and never show any aggressive behavior towards me.
- I'm feeding them regular chick starter crumble still.
- My coop is 3x5' ft and the run is 8x10'
- If you...
I have a hen that hatched and raised 8 chicks(6 female, 2 males). She abandoned them at 2 months and started to lay again so I returned her to the main flock.
The 8 chicks have their own coop and run seperate from main. They have been living peacefully for about 3 weeks now but today one of...
