Yeah, that's why we felt so bad for them, and didn't realize quite how bad they were until we were on our way home... We've messaged the seller now, and we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for the plan of action! To check the crops in the morning, do we just push against it gently? What exactly am I...
I just did just in case haha. We haven't checked their crop yet, that was next on our list. From what i've seen of their droppings, they're either normal, or a little on the watery side. Both that look sick have actually been eating well! Is that a good sign? We're considering messaging the...
So we got three new chickens today. When we went to see the options of chickens, we found there to be around 60-70 chickens in one small shed. We felt so awful for them that we bought three to try and give them a better life. Once we were driving away we noticed the white one was sneezing a lot...
Should we separate the silkie from the other two to try and keep it from being infected? They were all in a very confined space pre us getting them, so I don't know that it would make a difference.
Thanks everyone! We do have other flock, but we're keeping these separate for a while. There were so many poor birds when we went to look at them that we felt like we needed to try and help some of them, so we're not surprised they're probably sick. Any suggestions on how to diagnose?
So my sister and I bought three new chickens from some people nearby today. They had a LOT of different chickens and breeds in their small barn (really a shed), and couldn't really tell us what was what. We know that one chicken is a Silkie (though we're not sure boy or girl), and we can't ID...
Oh yes, we learned so much despite everything, and I will, thank you! No other ducklings, the little one was the only one who made it all the way, but we have 3 adult ducks and 3 adult chickens to keep us company in the meantime!
Hi, it's okay, someone replied in a different thread that i made. Sadly though, she just passed away a few hours ago... We think she just lost the strength to fight.
I don't right now, but I can try to get one. We're worrying she's getting weaker cause she'll only drink the water, she won't take any food in whichever form we try to give it to her. (She's making that noise, and sleeping a lot more.)
Thanks for the tip!
It's just started making a bit of a clicking sound with it's little peeps, ever heard that by any chance...? Some thing to worry about?
We're feeding her with spoons with warm sugar water, and very watered down chick food about every 1-2 hours. She apparently likes the water much more than the watery food.... She's at least getting a few drops every time, and we're seeing poop fairly regularly, which gives us hope.
And we...
After this poor thing and the stress of potentially losing it, I'm not sure when we will try to hatch again... But thank you, we read so many things online, and she was so active (still is) we just didn't think she'd stay in the cup/bowl!
And we might have neosporin!
We think it did absorb a bit of it, but definitely not all. We had put it in a damp cloth, but when we checked back there was yolk everywhere. The sac seems to have dried up nicely now, and we're trying really hard to keep everything sanitary.
Okay thank you! It's eyes do manage to open once...
What kind of warm compress...? We've been doing warm water on q-tips.
And it's drinking sugar water, and tiny bits of really wet food. It was born with it's yolk sac, which later burst, so we weren't sure where to go from there other than bits of water.
So our black swedish hatched 2.5 days ago now, had a bit of a troubled hatching with the yolk sac, but we're mainly worried about it's eyes. It looks like they're goopy or stuck shut...? We feel so bad cause she can't see anything, and must be so scared.
We keep trying to gently wash them out...
