I just put her in a cat carrier with pine shavings and a blanket over it but took the door off so hopefully she realizes to stay in. Although I was just out there in the coop doing that and it’s definitely warmer than outside. I do have an old dog crate but it will only fit in the run. I was...
Hi all,
My 7 month old speckled Sussex is limping. I noticed yesterday a little bit but it is definitely much worse today. It looks bruised and I don’t see anything resembling bumble foot but these are my first chickens. She’s not laying yet. Was eating and drinking. But than just standing...
I think a lot of towns are still pushing for a change but I’m in a tiny town and we don’t have any ordinance at all as of right now. So far my neighbors don’t mind
No way I have a really small yard and the dogs or I would have found them. Plus I totally stalk them as they free range either stay out or run back and forth to my bath window bc im always worried about them LOL
I am in central NJ so from what I’ve read as well I think she may wait until spring. I have a cuckoo marans that also has not yet laid but I know they start later in general. I definitely do not want to add artificial light or anything to my girls, I’ll get eggs when I get eggs. I was so...
Still no eggs and no crowing! I’m very much leaning to hen as she’s now 28 weeks old. I feel like it’s be obvious by now if it was a boy, but I’d feel better if she laid an egg! But the eggs I’m getting are definitely not from her.
Well I’m getting eggs! They’ve laid this week but I was at work so I can’t be sure who!!! I’m doing a stakeout this weekend. I have the speckled Sussex, Rhode Island Red, black australorp and cuckoo marans. Here’s the eggs I got, gonna do a stakeout this weekend so I can see who their from!
Ugh that’s my favorite one! I’m keeping him til I hear a crow. We have no chicken ordinance in my town so I wonder if I could fight to keep him? I’m very close to my neighbors though and one already told me I better not get a rooster
So I’ve posted about this same hen before. I’m convinced she’s a rooster. 20 week old speckled Sussex. No crow or egg yet. The cuckoo marans is 21 weeks and the australorp and RIR are 19 for comparison. She is very friendly and not at all aggressive, but her comb is much bigger and redder than...
I did read about it all on google but I love the advice on this blog and tend to trust real life experiences over google. It’s almost like there is too much information out there
thank you! Right now they are eating like pigs and I have them in their chicken tractor. They are dust bathing and foraging around for the dried meal worms I threw in the grass. I’m going to go to tractor supply and get the liquid corridor just in case, but wait to treat since they are acting...
