5.5 Week Old Speckled Sussex - Hen?

Did you click the images to expand? They're pretty large and cover comb, wattles, tail, chest, etc. What angle do you need?

5.5 Week Old Speckled Sussex - Hen?

This one is throwing me for a loop. It has a short stubby tail and thick legs, but it is so much darker than the roo I had at this age - way less white on the face and chest. Also my roo had a massive tail at this age and larger comb. Thoughts? This is the second sussex I've gotten from Meyer...

    5.5 Week Speckled Sussex, Roo?

The large full tail feathers say hen, but the comb is starting to get pink so that tells me roo. It is also top of the pecking order (actually, the only chick I've seen throw a peck at another). Any thoughts from folks? It was supposedly vent sexed as a hen when hatched.

    Any Salmon Faverolles Experts?

I have a 2-week-old salmon faverolles that is showing good wing development with both some black with white tips and salmon feathers. I've been told that you can sex these birds rather early. This is supposed to be a female. Being a hatchery quality bird, it complicates things a bit. Any thoughts?

    Runny Droppings on 3-week-old Bantam

I have a bantam that has just recently started flying up to our hands and seems to want to be handled. However, this afternoon, it seems to be under the heat plate more and has runny droppings/diarrhea. It also doesn't seem to be eating as much as usual or I haven't caught it when I've checked...

Introducing New Baby Chicks to Others

Does it make a difference if I'm picking up the baby chicks locally versus shipping?

Introducing New Baby Chicks to Others

I'm aware that, when introducing a new hen/rooster to a flock, you need to keep them separated for a bit using the "look but don't touch" method. My question is this - do you need to do the same thing for chicks that are, say, younger than 2 or so weeks? Or can you combine two batches of young...

    Indoor versus Outdoor Brooder

As I get ready for chicks in the spring, I keep reading that chicks are very dirty/dusty and will ruin a room in your house if you brood them indoors. My mind immediately began considering an attached, but unheated garage which stays around freezing or above in cold weather. I bought an ecoglow...

    ameraucanas or easter eggers?

For what their word is worth, MyPetChicken (hatchery) offers "true Ameraucanas." (BBS_Ameraucanas) The blue hen one in their picture looks exactly like the hen my friend has. I just didn't think that rooster could be a blue/black/splash - I couldn't identify that color - so that that's what made...

    ameraucanas or easter eggers?

A friend purchased some "easter eggers" in the spring. The females look just like blue ameraucanas to me. The one rooster is gorgeous with blue/slate legs and a rose comb - almost looks to be wheaten blue in color. I'm curious, did this friend actually get blue ameraucanas or just some good...

    meyerhatchery versus mypetchicken...

Thanks, all, for the replies. It seems strange that MPC seems to be the only place to offer sexed bantams if they were just a broker. There seems to be more to it.

    meyerhatchery versus mypetchicken...

ok, so I was browsing through hatchery websites and stumbled on the fact that mypetchicken.com and meyerhatchery.com has pretty much all the same breeds, all the same prices, and even use some of the same photos for their chickens. Is this a coincidence or is mypetchicken another online...

    Location for a New Coop

Hi All, I promised the kids I'd build them a chicken coop for chickens next spring so I'm in research phase. My plan is a coop/run combo with a footprint of 6x12. The coop itself will be 24 square feet. There is really only one location in my yard that is easily accessible - it is on the west...
