I'll try and get some pictures when I'm home in a few days. She's tough to photograph because she is very flighty. Regardless, she lays me big bright blue eggs and I'm clearly not starting a purebred breeding operation so her lines don't matter too much to me. I began to incubate some of her...
Eggcellent reply, thank you! I have been reading up on how to determine fertilized or not. Aside from that I think the only problem with using eggs from a new layer is size, but this hen is almost 9 months old and her eggs aren't all that small.
Hello, I had a chick sold to me as an Australorp, who I suspected was a black Amerauana start laying.... surprise, she lays bright blue eggs. Anyways, I am looking to expand my flock and thought it would be fun to hatch some of her eggs. My rooster is a Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte. I am under the...
Well, I thought I'd check back in and give an update. To those of you who speculated Ameraucana my hen FINALLY laid her first egg at 8 months old. Bright Blue. Suffice to say she is pure? Either way I am thrilled.
I was sold this as a chick as a Black Australorp, as it has grown it looks nothing like one. It has developed a beard, it is very skittish. Currently about 10 weeks old or so. What's your guess?
Thanks for all of the suggestions. He just went downhill very fast, two days ago I thought he looked a little slow and pale and this morning he was dead. The unfortunate part is I don't think I will ever know.
I'm wondering about the underlying health issues... It would make sense because he had such a rapid decline. It did look like he maybe had a stroke or seizure.
I only noticed symptoms two days ago and treated yesterday. His feathers and everything were in perfect condition and not picked at. I'm worried it might be something else. I doubt he will make it, but am concerned for the test of the seemingly healthy flock.
After posting here yesterday about a young rooster that was acting lethargic with a pale comb I ended up finding a few mites on his comb so I went and cleaned the coop, sprayed permethrin inside the coop and shook chicken dust premethrin on his rump. I had been offering water with electrolytes...
I think you are right he is anemic. I just checked him again and found mites on him. Now I at least know what I'm fighting. What is the best way to treat my flock/coop?
Hello, I have an 18 week old Welsummer Rooster. He is developing well, found his crow in the last two weeks and began chasing and trying to mount his hens as well. In the last few days I noticed a behavior and appearance change. His comb and wattles appear pale and dry not glossy and deep red...
