So, I hear that tylosin is now prescription only, and I have a respiratory infection going through my flock like dominos. Ideally I'd like to just treat the drinking water, and I think they'd prefer that to IM injections as well. What alternatives are there?
Thanks in advance.
Hi all.
My old rooster Brutus is bleeding from his right ear. He's about 7ish years old, and lost his right eye in a fight over a year ago. I had noticed the ear looking inflamed this past week, but no other symptoms. He had been hanging by himself the past few days, but he's also an old guy...
Really?? Wow. My other concern is about her getting along with the rest of the flock. She can’t really peck back, so I don’t want her to get hurt. She’s currently crated in the run while everyone gets used to each other.
Hi all. My neighbor found a chicken, and the top mandible of the beak appears to be completely gone. Chicken seems otherwise fine. Any idea if the beak will grow back? Any other advice?
Hi all.
I have a small flock of chickens (10-ish, plus chicks) on a standard city lot in an urban area. I was thinking of getting guinea keets for my two broody ladies to raise. Minimum order from the hatcheries is 15. I plan to keep a few, and rehome most.
I need your advice about whether...
Hi all.
I have a mixed flock of chickens, which includes a broody hen and her 4 week old chicks. Someone in the flock has roundworm, so I need to treat everyone. My questions:
Is it ok to treat the water with safeguard, since the little chicks will be drinking it?
If not, what is the dosage...
This is Sunflower with her 6 chicks. She had been sitting on 16 eggs (I gave her 8, and she stole 8 more!) but nothing hatched. I got her some black copper Maran chicks and some bantam Cochins so that she has a broody buddy or two in the future.
Oh man, I have disappointing news: NOTHING HATCHED. I found my broody hen in the wrong nest box one day, and
No, I draw a circle around the equator so I can easily see which eggs are new additions.
My broody got up from the nest for a brief respite, so I took a peek at the clutch. Hatch day should theoretically be tomorrow.
Started with 8 eggs, the sneaky lady stole some more, two were removed when I candled around halfway, and here we are. 14 currently in the nest.
I also post on IG...
Update: candled the eggs two days ago. Pulled out two duds. I’m not sure if the viability of most, to be honest. I found little broody mama sitting in the wrong nest box one day, and am not sure how long the eggs had been left cold. At this point I’m just hoping she has a couple babies to care for!
You guys, this little stinker of a hen squirreled away eight more eggs when I wasn’t looking  so I candled them and four clearly have something going on, so she’s up to twelve. I’m going to need to get the incubator warmed up for the ones that need longer than her patience allows.
I set 8 eggs on Sunday, not sure if that counts. 5 Olive Egger eggs (maran x Ameraucana cross) and 3 from my favorite bantam Cochin (same Ameraucana roo). That should be a cute little chicken.
Hi all!
I’m planning on building a new run for the coop, and would like some input. Current run is 8’x5’, and the new run will be 12’x6’. With the avian flu in state, I’m planning on starting this sooner than later.
The coop and run currently:
My original idea was to do a cattle panel...
