Ok now the wind chills are supposed to be -25 here in illinois. I’m panicking. Bring her in? Or she will be fine? I’m putting heated bean bags in there with her currently.
Yeah, the idea of a lamp or panel heater scares me in any regard.
I pretty much agree with bringing her in just to spoil her, but... my husband is not a fan of the idea 🤣. I suppose I will just stick to watering and feeding her regularly throughout the days and making sure she is as happy as I...
It's not shown in the pictures, but she has a large vent in the front top of the coop, and the door and porch are also open. She has plenty of circulation and fresh air, I made very sure of that! Only the three sides and the top are covered, and the top still opens (like the hood of a car). She...
I have a single gal. Almost 1 year old Barred Rock. She was a rescue, may be getting her a sister in a few months. Anyway- For now she has a custom built freestanding coop courtesy of my brother in law. We live in central Illinois. To winterize her coop I applied black plastic sheeting to avoid...
What is chicken math? I vaguely remember hearing somewhere to get them in odd numbers... if they don’t get along I don’t know what I would do. I suppose maybe I should hold off... :/
I currently have one hen, who is a rescue. She is a Barred Rock. I think I want to get her a sister in the spring. Any suggestions on a good breed if I want to switch it up? I was thinking a bantam of some type as her coop is custom built for her, and could house one more chicken comfortably. I...
Hmm... that may be an option... I’ll look into it. I really just want to make sure it’s not completely cruel to have a solitary chicken. My intentions are good but I know sometimes that’s not enough. Thank you.
I wish I could, but I don’t know that that is an option. Her home was custom built for her, and I don’t know if there’s room for another adult chicken...
yes they tried the look, don’t touch. :( I am in Illinois, so winters are cold, but her coop is on wheels so she will go in the garage to stay warm. :) thank you also for the reassurance with the roost and the nesting box. She is still young and figuring things out I’d imagine so I’ll be patient...
Thank you. I really hope she does well. If another rescue chicken came along perhaps I could make that happen, but I was really pushing it bringing her home in terms of my husband lol. I had to convince him she is a “foster” haha!! He knows she’s ours, though, and he likes her now.
