They have them, they just don't like roosting. Even if I sit them on a stool in the day they freak.to.get back in the ground its almost as if they are scared of heights 🤣 they three older ones have always been the same the younger chick silkie has grew up with a polish hen and gold top so she...
The babies are fine no sign of anything which makes me think this is just a molt for the older two? They also are not really interested in treats never have been they enjoy meal worms and their feed eat grit and have vitamins and boosters I spend more on them than I do myself 🤣
Silky hens.
OK I have 6 hens 3 that are 14 weeks old and 3 that are 11 months old. One is inside broody, the other two have stopped laying and have bald bellys and chests eating fine drinking acting fine. No signs of any mites or lice. Cleaned out daily is this just a molt?
OK, so was 12 weeks on Sunday, any more sure answers the tails feathers seem longer than my grown up silkie hens but then has a pullet nose im so confused!??
Yes if my silkie peakin looks how he does compared to yours they are definitely girls haha. I have the heart break of needing to rehome him soon, I imagine the neighbours will complain at the cockadoodledoo. The hen songs are loud enough
Yeah my silkie peakin is a cockrel most definitely yours are hens I'm guessing much more delicate looking than young Kenneth!!
But yes black silkie is the little trouble maker I thought id have the all worked out by now but this one has me stunned
I will get some tomorrow of comb. Its so bloody hard to tell. They act squatty and hen like. They are the smallest of the four chicks and we have a really big (silkie peakin cross) cockrel chick the same age who chest pumps everyone and has grown bigger than momma hen already so if its a a roo...
I will grab him/her tomorrow and take some. Keeps getting themself pecked by our big silky girls when we let them meet. So keeping them separate still at the minute as all our other chicks can fly up (gold top, pilkie, and polish) but this silly sod can't and just sits on the floor being a target
Sorry I never seen these replies until just. I've taken more pictures today if they help he or she did raise the neck feathers today like our other boy chick the same age does when picked up not sure if just boys do this or girls too. Other than that its our smallest chick out of the four timid...
Hey almost 10 weeks now and although the bluey pilkie (kenneth) is definitely a boy im beginning to have doubts on black silkie as small non aggressive at all like kenneth and although I'm no expert at all cant see anything that shouts boy boy boy. What do you guys think!?
Update on these two now almost 8 weeks I think we are all going to agree both boys!? The pilkie is a very big boy (and a bit of a bully) what age should we try and rehome him? Mommy hen is still very obsessed with them and still trying to get them underneath her despite the fact his the same...
