Y'all need to chill. The bear has come back once and just looked at the coop. This also happened months ago. We got new chickens and they are happy as can be. Y'all are arguing about the most petty things. Stick to Facebook if you want to argue but this is a freaking chicken forum.
I've checked. The laws are very vague. It's the same here but the problem is the location of the coop. Theres no safe shot. And I'm not shooting a .300 Win Mag in the dark with houses within a half mile. Its not worth the risk to human life.
I'm looking into blanks and simunitions and I've got plenty of .270 as backup. I'm out of town right now but we'll see if he visits again tonight. Maybe if I can find some airsoft flashbangs. They essentially use .22 blanks.
I know I seem like a crazy redneck but I'm trying to exhaust as many possibilities as I can before I use lethal force. The risk is that it gets too comfortable around humans. Last week a lady got killed by bears while jogging in Durango. This bear is a nuisance. We've had many problems with it...
He came back. Lit him up with airsoft guns and he left. Didn't do anymore damage to the coop. Those chickens are lucky. Sprayed bleach around the sides because bears hate it.
Always willing to talk hunting. Amazing. On public land you've got to get pretty far in but my friend shot his first elk last year about 3 miles in by Grand Junction.
If it is putting human life, livestock, or real property at risk you can kill it. Legally I'm not sure what chickens are legally but that's not really a something I want to find out. I'll call the game warden in the morning.
Sure did. It's probably a 150 pound coop. Figured it'd be fine. Tied it down until we can find a more permanent solution and were setting up a security camera and keeping my more serious airsoft gun loaded by the door. Might get some 12 gauge bird bangers to try to scare it away. It's a much too...
That sounds fun. In Colorado we have rattlesnakes on the plains and a few spots in the mountains but you usually take care of those with a shovel or 12 gauge.
Maybe not proper ventilation? I'm not sure. I had a perfectly healthy chicken die 3 weeks ago and found her in a similar position. It was -22 though so possibly related but not necessarily.
