    Heat for chicken tractor

Thanks for all the help. We've had chickens before, but haven't raised any babies without their Mama. I think i have the heat lamp set alright. They're a week old today, so I removed the heating pad and put a little more distance between their box and the heat lamp. It's about 85° at one end and...

    Heat for chicken tractor

Maybe I can attach a single photo. You can see one is on the swing, some are down on the heating pad, some are at the cooler end near the feed and water. Several like the rolled-up towel. Overall, they seem fine right now. It's just getting them adjusted to outside that concerns me.

    Heat for chicken tractor

Is it important to change the temperature gradually? If so, how should I go about it?

    Heat for chicken tractor

Currently using a heat lamp above their box and also a pet heating pad. The temperature stays about 85°F to 90°F depending on which end of the box you are checking. I'll be taking the heating pad out today.

    Heat for chicken tractor

I have ten, ISA Brown chicks, one week old. They are currently in a box inside our house. (I'm only going to keep four of them.) My husband is making a chicken tractor and we're trying to decide on a good heat source when needed. The nest box and roost, will be enclosed above a wire pen. What...

Chick won't eat. What to do?

She's doing much better this morning. I opened her mouth and dropped in one little crumble. She would try her best to spit it out. But I put a tiny drop of water after it and she had no choice but to let it go down. Didn't expect her to live, but so happy she's doing better now. I would attach a...

Chick won't eat. What to do?

I'm letting her rest a little while, and then try giving her some egg. But she won't peck at anything, so I don't know.....

Chick won't eat. What to do?

I'll try the scrambled egg. I wonder if just a bit of raw egg yolk would work?

Chick won't eat. What to do?

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried soaking a little feed in water until it was soft, but it was nearly impossible to open her mouth and get any in. Not sure she could handle a piece of raisin.

Chick won't eat. What to do?

My order of ISA Brown chicks came in this morning. They're all doing fine except one. I can put her beak in water (with electrolytes) and get her to take a few swallows, but she won't eat anything. She's lethargic, but can stand alright when i get her up. Any suggestions?

What kind of chick is this?

We purchased these little chicks from TSC about four weeks ago. Can anyone tell us what kind they are?

If I don't give them anything except chick starter, at what point should I begin giving them grit?

Thank you for such detailed information about the medicated feed. That is very helpful. I have a lot to learn!

    Chick Starter

Beautiful hens! I had no idea they would go through so much feed! Would it be possible to supplement the chick starter with something like persimmons? We have an abundance of them this year. Or would that not be a good idea with young chicks?

    Chick Starter

Thank you for responding to my question. It's taking me a little time to learn how this works. I thought I would receive an email when a reply came in, but that didn't happen. Anyway, I was able to find a 5- pound bag of medicated chick starter. Now just waiting for them to arrive. 😊

    Chick Starter

Thank you so much! I'll definitely get the medicated feed. Now if I can just find something smaller than a 50-pound bag. I'm just placing the minimum order of 10 chicks. I'm sure that's way more feed than I need! 🐣
