We do have game cameras, I’ll have to put it on video mode and see what I can find out. I’m pretty sure it has to be the hens because we haven’t lost any chickens to predators.
My hens are all 17 weeks. I put wooden eggs in the coop in their nest boxes and somehow they have moved them out and into the woods behind their coop. Are they telling me that they are planning on laying their eggs in the woods? Crazy chickens! I moved the wooden eggs back to the nesting boxes...
Do you think this one is also an olive egger/green queen/easter egger? She also has fuzzy legs but has more fluff around the cheeks than my black marans.
Meyer Hatchery - I’m new to chickens. How can you tell it’s bearded? I also thought there were only a couple breeds with feathered legs. I’d love to know your guess!
We live in a pretty cold climate so I’m kind of thinking along the lines of ‘survival of the fittest’. 🤷🏼♀️😉 I’m sure there will be a breed or two who are best suited for our climate and forest foraging.
I was thinking that if I were going to do any purebreds the SFH would be the ones. I was thinking I could probably just separate them with the rooster for a bit to gather up their eggs for hatching.
