This is my 7 month old hens' first autumn and one of them is not laying for 4 days now. It seems they are preparing for the coming winter and their feathers are so fluffy and nice. I hope she stopped laying in preparation for winter. I am monitoring their movements and poops, and at the moment...

Does egg laying change the moisture level in the poop?

True. I didn't realised that. It used to remind me of alfalfa pellets before! I miss my babies... they suddenly have grown up so big now... with giant poops!

Does egg laying change the moisture level in the poop?

The bedding is about 2 inches and the coop is well ventilated. I pick up the poop early in the morning. I used to pick up the poop very clean with nothing attached, but now it is like the bottom is covered with wet wood shaving crumbles. I will keep on monitoring them. Thank you.

Does egg laying change the moisture level in the poop?

I was surprised with 'that' poop too. I thought moist poop is caused by the change in diet as their feed has been changed from 'growers' to 'egg layers'. it is getting cool where we live and maybe they are still drinking a lot of water as if it is still summer. I will keep monitoring their...

Does egg laying change the moisture level in the poop?

My hens have been laying eggs almost a month now. I clean the coop every day and noticed the moisture level of their poop is very high. Sometime the bedding(wood shavings) around the poop is soaking wet. The shape and colour of the poop look normal and healthy. But is this common to other hens?

    Chicken doesn't eat meal worms!

Glad my chicks are not the only ones not eating meal worms. I bought a box of meal worms but my 8 weeks old chicks don't have any interest in them. They like slugs and caterpillars, but have no interest in meal worms nor earthworms. Do they need to learn what to eat? I was surprised that...

Greenish spots on my chicken's leg

Thank you. It is a hybrid leghorn. She is fine. She is a scary cat, but at the same time adventurous. I initially noticed one spot when she was 3 weeks old and yesterday I found another one, at 8 weeks old, and this got me worried. Thank you so much and I feel much better.

    diarrhea

I have a similar poop problem. So I took a picture of the poop in question and asked the lady I got my chickens from. According to her it is normal and chickens have this poop if they drink a lot of water. Well this picture was taken in a hot day(30c+). Also I have noticed when my chicken poops...

Greenish spots on my chicken's leg

Hi. My chicken has about two greenish spots on her legs. I noticed one spot a couple of days after I got her (she was only 3 weeks old then) and I thought it was a birth mark. Then today I found another spot on the other leg and this made me worried. I did some search and one of the article in...
