    New Jersey

Any chance anyone in N.J. is in need of a female Pekin duck about 18 weeks old? Our three ducklings grew up to be two boys and a girl. I’m worried the girl will get hurt by the boys when the hormones kick in. Reach out if interested. Thank you!

Hey Everyone! I have read a lot about introducing a broody hen to an adopted chick, but there seems to be some conflicting info. I´m hoping you guys can help me! I have a coop that is elevated 3 feet with a ramp that goes into the enclosed run. I only 3 hens right now. We were hoping to...

Comb is needing and badly hurt

She is the smallest. I have two buff orphingtons and two black sex links. She went broody back in April and finally gave up in July. I have noticed that she is the lowest on totem pole. She is the last to eat a treat and everyone will take it from her. Last week, I found blood in the nesting...

Comb is needing and badly hurt

Help! My little bantam is being picked on and her comb looks pretty bloody. I put her in the run by herself just now but the other 4 girls have to come home to roost soon. What should I do to help her injury, prevent further attacks and is it ok for her to roost with the others at night?

Hawks!! Poultry netting or chicken tractor?

Hi! I’m hoping to get some advice. I’m a new chicken owner. I have five delightful friendly hens that are 25 weeks. Only one started laying last week. I have been allowing them to free-range from late morning until late afternoon-sometimes they go to bed before I even come to call them in for...

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

Ok. Glad to hear someone else agrees that it may be tough with such a small coop and to actually not be able to "feel" the draft. I think that is a super idea to cover the windows except the top 2 inches! I hadn't thought of that. I was actually going to order the plexiglass to fit right in...

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

SO glad you mentioned ventilation! This is another one of those things that has been driving me bonkers. I made a screen ventilation that in the warmer weather is amazing, but I pretty much close it at night now to help with drafts. Unfortunately, they roost pretty much at head level with...

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

Thank you! I was searching and searching for inspiration with no luck. But I read enough on site to learn that I can make a pretty cute coop close to the house if I am careful with consistent cleaning and no loose food laying around! The girls use their coop just to sleep! :)

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

Thank you! So psyched for our one egg breakfast tomorrow! haha I think we will use either tarp or roll up and down fabric? I'm still toying with some ideas. Currently, I have plastic wrap on the windy side. But it sure doesn't look all that great!

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

It is 20 square feet. And the girls get it it the run(which is 64 square feet) by a pop up door. See pics below. I insulated it today and we also got out first egg!!

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

Oh my! I love idea!! I have some those sheets now bc I’m going to waterproof the ceiling (under the stairs platform). Never thought to use that to protect against the wind! Hum....

New coop! Should I wrap some of the run to protect the girls from the wind?

Hi! I’m new to chickens and I’m so excited about our coop! I designed it and helped build in 😁 I took to this website constantly for coop advise. I’m working on a few more vents and insulation tomorrow inside of it. I might even wrap some of the run in clear tarp to protect the 5 girls from...
