Single Duckling Hatched- Question/Advice for care

Hello Everyone- A single duckling hatched from a batch of six (the others were duds). It seems healthy and happy but I know they need companions. None of the feed stores around me have ducklings. I ordered more from Metzer but they won't be sent out for another eight days (then a few more to...

Thank you! False alarm- about an hour ago it went crazy and just kept at it until it hatched. The duckling is alive and well- fully hatched,

I have a duckling that has started to zip- but has not made any progress in 12 hours. Should I wait a bit longer or begin to assist? This is our first hatch and I do not want to help too early.

Fertile duck eggs developing at different rates?

Thanks, that was a big help! Day 28 is Monday so tomorrow they go on lockdown- I’ll just take my chances and hope for the best. Quick question: how important is hatch position? (First time hatching) I have an incubator with a flat tray, not rounded cups. The eggs lay on their side. I can try...

Fertile duck eggs developing at different rates?

Good morning everyone- I incubated four fertile duck eggs- two were duds. We're on day 23 of 28 and one of them is moving and looks like it should- but the other one looks a lot smaller developmentally. The temps and humidity have been steady, the turner is working. I looked for a blood ring...

HELP/Advice with incubating and hatching duck eggs.

It’s a “Smart Life Incubator” (buying it might not have been so smart). https://www.hhdincubator.com/product/8001164.html but I think the company that makes it is HHD. I bought it on Amazon. Maybe I’ll just go to Agway or Tractor Supply tomorrow.

HELP/Advice with incubating and hatching duck eggs.

Hello Everyone, I was hoping some of you could help me. We're getting some fertile duck eggs to hatch (Cayuga cross). I bought what I thought was a decent incubator- but there is no visible ventilation in it. From what I understand ventilation is very important. Am I missing something? It has...

    "Leaving the Coop" advice

Hello Folks- I am a new owner of a small flock of Delaware Pullets. They are about 12 weeks old. I had been keeping them in a large pen with ample space for them to run around, with a roost. I finished their coop last week and moved them into their new home. They've been eating and drinking...

The "Pasty Butt" syndrome. How do you deal w/ it?

Thank you all! I am pleased to say that at three weeks it has pretty much run its course. The ones who seemed particularly "Pasty" have pretty much lost all the fuzz on their tails and it isn't an issue.

Pine Shavings in My Water: Advice

Wow! These are all great ideas. I put them up on blocks last night and it seems to have worked for now. I love the idea of a separate 'platform' that the food and water is set on.

Pine Shavings in My Water: Advice

Hey folks, This may seem like a silly question... but my chicks are SLOBS. They find some way of either filling the shallow mouth of the water bowl with feed or now that I have switched their bedding to pine shavings they fill nit up with pine shavings. In either case it means if I don't go...

Advice: Letter to Alderman/City Councilman New Haven CT

Hey Folks, I am new to the forum and to raising poultry in general, so first of all I would like to thank you all for being so helpful. It's nice to see people with a common interest be able to talk. I live in a mostly urban area in New England. It is considered suburban, not many...

The "Pasty Butt" syndrome. How do you deal w/ it?

Thanks, everyone! Like some of you said, I think the problem was largely due to stress from shipping. I decided to let it go for a few days and the problem largely took care of itself. The new batch of chicks is doing very well and growing like weeds! They are only a little over one week old...
