This is Eagle, the last to lay, but also the first to go broody. This is the first time I've ever had a hen go broody on me. I would like to have her hatch some chicks, since I've slaughtered my extra rooster. What are some tips for caring for a broody hen?

Sorry to necro an old post but, I've got one Australorp that has the same lack of comb and wattles that it looks more like an eagle than a chicken. Is this common with Australorps?

Just did. It's empty. But they're getting starter crumble today so hopefully it gives her the extra boost.

The whole flock free range so they get their dose of grit from the soil. I'll go with the starter feed tmrw and see how it goes.

The pullets are surprisingly ok with me handling them, while the roos are quite flighty (but possibly because they're the newest of the lot)

So far the other pullets and roos don't seem to be showing symptoms. Let's hope it stays that way.
