In case anyone was wondering! I brought my bantam girl inside. She was so broody her body condition was suffering so I decided to give her a clutch of eggs to brood indoors where I can make sure she’s getting enough food and water.
My seremas have stopped laying so she’s brooding some marans and...

My bantam girls who go broody live outside with my standard sized birds. I open the coop door during the day to allow my girls to run around the yard.
I don’t want chicks in my main coop as I cannot acomidate them safely in that space.
the seremas I have inside we’re the birds o was...

l the eggs were pulled. I’m letting them re-start and then I’m bringing one of my broody bantams inside from the main flock in 1 days or so to see if she’ll sit on the collection. If she’s not interested I’ll just get my incubator back up and running
Thank you for your reply. It’s a shame! I have a bantam in my outdoor coop who keeps going broody but it’s unacceptable this time of year to let her. Keep having to pick her up off the nest .
I have four hens ranging in age from 3 years to 4 months. There is a pile of eggs I’ve been leaving in the nest box.
Rooster mounts the girls regularly so I know they’re fertilized.
my question is, do they need more time to become settled enough to brood?
They’ve been here in this enclosure for...
I hate to say this but after years of incubating - of he cannot make his way out of the egg by himself he will not survive. Sometimes a little intervention works but I find that is 2/10 times.
If you’d like after waiting a couple hours go ahead and remove the egg, bring it inside , dampen a...
Run Vaseline on it before he leaves the coop / every day in the morning. It’s a bit of frostbite. It might clear up or the black spots may make his comb smaller come springs

I live in Northwestern Ontario and a bucket of water without a heater will freeze solid in a couple hours or less. Use two buckets from the indoor tap (or run a small length of hose from the sink to the buckets on the floor) and fill a kiddie pool outside. My ducks will go into the pool when...
It sounds like she started moulting and being alone has stressed her out. A chicken kept without any friends becomes neurotic and here where I love it can get to -40 with a good polar vortex . I would find her a “chicken saddle” or sew one up if you’re able theyre very simple in design I’m not a...
That is a submissive behaviour. She’s showing she’s ready to be mounted by the rooster / your hand. Her shaking after is something hens do after the rooster fertilizes her. She should be laying in the next two months or so. Depending on the weather where you are - cold weather and an improperly...
Is she squatting when you go to pet her? And do you have a rooster in your flock?? That’s a submissive behaviour. They’ll squat to let the rooster deposit his fertilizer and to their humans.
I think she’d be a little young to be laying but depending on the breed it’s entirely possible.
