Keeping peace in the chicken yard despite "too many" roosters and interfering with pecking order

I love Elvis! So handsome. Thank you for posting this it is really helpful. I had 10 (all different ages) somehow between hatching and people Giving me free pullets I ended up with only 4 hens and one of them just died suddenly. Sadly the roosters that should go are Silver Laced Polish &...

    Sumatra Roosters?

Good to know. They get lots of good food and are allowed to free range. I have also ordered more meal worms but I’ll note that for the new owners

    Sumatra Roosters?

We could put them in our own soup pot, but I hate to see them go. But for the reasons you just stated I don’t know how to keep them safe from each other in the spring. We do have hawk and just saw a huge one yesterday. But I have started the “free to a good home” posts. Thank you for the info.

    Sumatra Roosters?

Thank you. Ugh bummer. I ended up with 10 chickens, 5 are roosters! I only have 1 laying hen and need to figure out what to do before the fighting starts. I had to give away 3 roosters in Aug bc they were terrorizing my hen.

    Sumatra Roosters?

I was given these two a couple months ago and was told they were Sumatra pullets. The blue one isn’t aggressive but scares very easy. The black one is bossy and is intimidating to the rest of the flock. I currently have these two with my laying hen and my main rooster (the other two in the 2nd...

    Is my duck egg fertilized?

When I adopted them I was told the mom had stepped on him. The female is fine.

    Duck Egg Fertilized?

I have two Pekin ducks. The male (Launchpad) is special needs (crooked bill and walks with a limp) I’ve seen him “try” but never successfully “get the job done” Recently he has been aggressive towards me when I take the morning egg and the female (Webbigail) has been hiding them in her nest. So...

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Good point. We have a little under 4 acres for them to free range on and during drought it’s slim pickings. At this point I’m going to wait and see how many more roosters are going to surprise me. I’ve already read homed 3 this year

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Nope, no selling just for eating at home. I woken for a produce broker so I know all the rules/requirements and that’s way too much for me. Just trying to be more homestead here

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Oh no not eating them, just asking if these can be bred to eat. My guess was the black and white big rooster was a Dom or barred I don’t know. My plan was to only eat the boys and keep the girls for eggs

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Well thank you everyone for all the advice. I also learned I may have 5 roosters vs the 2 I thought!

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Well that is a bummer. I was really hoping to get 1 female of the two. And they were sold as pullets!

Are my birds suitable for eating?

Those two birds are the ones I was thinking of using for breeding. She’s the only laying hen at the moment and every egg I’ve used has been fertilized. Just waiting to get a full dozen at least before incubating.
