    Thing fell off hens leg

Okay thank you! She had problems with leg mites when I got her last year but they weren’t to this point and we got them taken care of before winter. None of the other birds look like they are having mite issues, but I will put Vaseline on their legs to, just to be safe.

    Thing fell off hens leg

I noticed something hanging off one of our americanas legs, in trying to look she kicked and it fell off, what is it? It looks like she has on about a quarter of the size on the other leg but she’s mad and won’t let me look at her now

Toulouse goslings with different colored beaks?

The babies have all of their adult feathers and this is their result.

Toulouse goslings with different colored beaks?

Originally I thought they would be buff but they definitely arnt. I had thought the parents were both Toulouse but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Watching the girls as they we’re building nests and laying, I never saw any of the embden go to this nest, so either I have a secret embden...

Toulouse goslings with different colored beaks?

After three years one of my geese finally managed to hatch out a clutch. Toulouse female and male, she had 8 eggs, 7 hatched, 6 made it out all the way and are surviving. I noticed that two of the surviving and the one that didn’t make it have pink feet and beak and the grey feathers are...

Duckling not hatched completely, and bleeding. Can I save it?

Thank you. Sadly I expected most, if not all of the duckling to be like this, as this happened to all but two from the previous nests this year. Fingers crossed, for the three chicken eggs and four other duck eggs she’s sitting on

Duckling not hatched completely, and bleeding. Can I save it?

Well. I put it under a brooder to keep it warm while I went to the house to get paper towels and I put it under a brooder while I went to the house for paper towels and tweezers. While I was gone it got almost completely out of the shell and out from under the brooder and sadly died. Eyes were...

Duckling not hatched completely, and bleeding. Can I save it?

I have two first time nesters who lost all the eggs in their nests this year, one made a late second nest and eggs are starting to hatch. This is the first time I’ve found a duckling like this and it still be alive. The mother removed it from the nest so I know she knows it’s going to die. It is...

    Scalped Turken

So my mother got some Turken chicks, and I loved them as they have great personalities and make good decisions, now they have gotten to an age where they’ve decided to establish a pecking order and getting into small skirmishes, nothing had been very serious but I had one come up to me with its...

    Duck drowned hatching egg?

Very unlikely. If it were somehow stuck to her it would have been knocked off when she left the nesting box or the coop. Both have decent ledges. My other Muscovy lady had a duckling hatch that was removed from the nest this morning. This one didn’t have a pool close by, so the duckling opened...

    Duck drowned hatching egg?

When closing up the coop for the night I discovered an egg in the run of one of my sitting Muscovy ducks. When I pulled it out it was one of her eggs and it was in the process of hatching. I have not looked further into the condition of the duckling to see if it had an obvious reason for her to...

Keeping other livestock out of your poultry feed

This year my ducks decided that out ten acres was just not enough space for the seven of them. So I had to take away their rights to roaming the property to just roaming the backyard and goat pasture. An absolute fight I had was finding a way to keep their feed from getting eaten by the goats...

Do you think chickens would like a playhouse?

They would probably enjoy the play house. I have two small ones, a plastic doll house one and a smaller wooden doll house. They both are two story and open in the back. The plastic one I used do so many things with my ducks and geese. From an entry for a temporary run to nesting boxes. Last...

    Fly predators with chickens?

Yea, nothing seems to hunt adult flys(except my Cornish cross chicks, but they are pretty lazy about it). I do use fly strips and the jar version of the bags. I do see the flock scratch through manure, from what I’ve read they will pick some of the eggs or larva out. The fly predators focus on...

    Fly predators with chickens?

Last year we started using the Spaulding fly predators to help with the flys(we have horses and a few goats) Not long after starting I ended up with about fifteen chickens, two Muscovy ducks and their sixteen ducklings. We did see improvement on the number of flys, but I’m unsure if it was the...
