Really, wow, I did not know they were this small. They are actually a tad smaller than my Bantams right now, but maybe they will grow some more. Well, so much for buying chicks from TSC, I do not usually do that, and will opt for a better source next time. Only did so because I wanted...
Can I see if anyone knows about this chick that is now 5 months old but 1/4 the size of the other hens who were purchased at the same time. There are two of these little girls. They look like barnevelders (but when purchased from TSC they were suppose to be Wellsummers) but they are not growing...
They seem fine to me, they are in the shadows so maybe my pics were not the best. But they are happy and enjoying life. Now that they are use to this new home they get to free range most of the day and are only in the cage at night. No fighting now, they seem to have established who is the top dog.
Also once I have the hen inside, after treating her, I keep her in a small cage, so I can treat her foot several times a day and keep an eye on her. This also keeps her from getting her foot injured too. In the past my hens with this issue loved the soaking in Epsom Salt and warm water - they...
We are raising ours out for meat, we hatched chicks and ended up with 5 roosters out of the chicks... they are now to the point that our main roo will not have them in his space, so had to move them to grow them out.
This is our Rooster pen, we just completed it today. We have 5 roos that were in our recent chicks we hatched, but only three are currently in this pen. If the others start to be a problem with the big girls we will move them. Our main rooster (Rizzo) is sweet, but did not like these three, so...
I am actually in the middle of prepping a dog kennel for a roost pen, ended up with 5 roos in our hatching of eggs, and need to let them grow out before culling them. I have 30 hens and one main rooster who is the king, I am hoping that one of my new roos will be able to stay with the hens and...
I always love learning new info, and while I have had chickens for a few years now, I just joined this group, and love learning from you all. I appreciate you posting that info, very helpful!!
Interesting article. We do not have a mud issue really since we live on sandy soil. But when the layers of the run do get mucky because of rain and decomposing woodchips and chicken poo I add a deep layer of pine needles. This is easy for me, since we live in the piney woods of Texas. But I...
Just found the receipt, she gave him Ivermectin! :weeI will have to get a better pic of his feet tomorrow. I already put him back with the girls. I will send it once I get it. But his feet do not look like any other issues to me, just red between the toes, the red stripe down the leg and then...
To your question - We treated him and the coop (spraying inside and on the roosting bars which are wood) on Dec. 27th but he was showing signs of this for about 4 days prior to this, could have been longer. She mentioned scraping him, but said the expense may not be what I would like, and that...
