Between this thread and a challenge posted in a watercolor group I'm in on MeWe, I finally painted something! First watercolor I've done in over a year...portrait of my little hen "Loudmouth." It's done in just two colors (per the challenge on MeWe).

I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but I wholeheartedly agree with you on those bleached flour white breads. So tasteless and blah. :)

I eat chicken, but not my own. Currently, I live in the city and am limited in the number of hens I can have. I have no issue with eating their eggs, or with eating chicken in general. I have been known to go outside to lock them up at night while I still have "chicken dinner" on my breath :D...

Has this been said? No matter what breed it is, leg feathers look wrong and messy. No feathered legs!

I used these to reinforce the door hardware on my prefab coop - pretty sure a raccoon can't open these. They're stiff and you have to hold them open and rotate quite far at the same time.

Can you add a thin piece of wood between the latch and recessed door to make that area flush with the molding? Does that make sense? edited to add - that way, you have a level surface to put a new latch in place.

The assembly of the roofs on the Craftsman and on the large shed in back (closest to the gate) were much easier. Flat pieces laid down first, then the cap at the ridgeline, and they're still watertight after all these years. The Rubbermaid required wedging a metal ridge in first between the two...

I honestly don't remember. We've had that one for years, but as storage for gardening tools. It used to be on the left next to the big shed. When we decided to turn it into a chicken supply shed, we moved it over by the chimney, and bought a new slightly larger small shed for the garden tools :)...

We have an older Craftsman plastic shed that works great. We put it on a layer of bricks on the north side of our house. Bricks for snow/rain melt off, north side so the summer sun won't bake the feed inside. Inside, we have a folding heavy duty plastic table to create a shelf for extra space...

You could just chop up the carrot shreds, but I don't think the carrot fibers are as much a problem as grass fibers can be.

So who's the culprit? When we got these girls back in November only Loudmouth, the pale gray/brown hen was laying, and her egg was very light pinkish-beige with no speckling (last pic). We found the speckled egg (first pic) in the bedding while cleaning this morning, and it's fairly small but...

Just a thought - Can you get dog kennel panels and make a free-standing rectangular kennel, then wrap the lower part with hardware cloth? It should support itself without having to be anchored in the frozen ground.
