Hi, I’m giving my flock dewormer this week by syringe. I’m nervous about it accidentally going down the trachea and drowning them. I read to aim to the left, but I’m still nervous. The trachea is right there.
Any other good tips or good videos?
I saw roundworms in a poo from one of my chickens. I’m not sure which of the ten it was, so I’d like to treat all ten. However, they’re molting right now and I read that the medicine can disrupt feather growth. So I’m using Strike III instead of something stronger.
Do I need to wait until...
Hi! One of my hens has one dilated pupil and one not. I can’t tell if she can see out of her eye or not. There’s no gunk, no sign of injury. The only recent difference is that she’s been sleeping on the floor of the coop instead of the roosting bar.
Thanks for the response. I didn’t know that about the intestinal lining!
I’m in New England. The weather just warmed up to about the sixties during the day. It’s very damp out.
I just noticed this poop today.
I have ten hens total. They stay in the run until about 4pm and then free range in...
One of my hens has a watery white diarrhea (similar to image 1) and another had a brown poop with what looked like maybe blood. They are all acting normal and eating/drinking. Any ideas?
OMG I’m a total idiot. I’ve been wondering why the two speckled Sussex I ordered don’t look anything like speckled Sussex. I thought they were just a weird mix or light variety. They don’t remotely look like Sussex 🤦♀️
It didn’t occur to me that the lady gave me the wrong breed. They are...
Hi there,
My five new pullets just started laying and I noticed an unexpected color in the nest box.
The egg in the middle is a greenish grey. I’m expecting only white and brown. The girls are the following breeds:
- black astrolorp
- barred rock
- buff orpington
- 2 x speckled Sussex
Any...
I don’t know if this will help anyone else, but my girl who was acting very similar to this is doing much better. I took her out of the coop and gave her pedialyte with a syringe and she started to do better slowly. She’s not completely herself but much better. I think it’s just a very bad...
Thank you so much! I called the vet to see if they’ll see her. It was actually late afternoon that I let them out to free range and I didn’t notice anything unusual before then. Her comb looked and felt normal to me. I’m going to pick up the supplements you mentioned tomorrow. Hopefully it’s...
Hi,
My two year old leg horn is sick and I have no idea what’s going on. She didn’t come out when I let the flock out to roam and instead was falling asleep on the perch.
She came down for a few minutes to eat a couple sunflower seeds, but wouldn’t eat bread when offered and looked like she was...
So we got our new girls today. Our older ladies don’t seem to even remotely care that there are chicks in the run (still separated). Is that a good sign? Will bullying still take place? I thought they’d be more interested or annoyed.
