They all sit up on these bars we have in the coop, probably 5 feet above the floor of the coop. He was up top at night and down Low acting wierd at night. He could have hit another lower bar on the way down
No grass, but they had good food and water at all times. They get grass every couple days when we let them out to free range, so missing out because of snow is wasn’t out of the ordinary for them.
Thank you! We introduced this group of chickens to our original batch when they were chicks in march, and they’ve been living together since then. We got them from a farm, so they weren’t vaccinated if that matters, Im not sure if Im thinking of something different. We do have 3 other roosters...
This morning I went to my coop before it was bright out and the rooster, a 10-month-old rooster, was sitting on the ground. He was perched up top last night and he was on the ground in the morning before it was bright out so he couldn't have gotten down and he was acting weird. His comb was...
Here are some pics of her and her poop. It’s just watery with a bit of yellow. I felt around everywhere and she feels normal. She doesn’t have a crop, which Im pretty sure is normal for a chicken that won’t eat but if it’s not let me know. She made a squeak when I picked her up but then she...
Her crop felt normal and I haven’t seen her poop yet but he backside is extremely clean so I don’t think it would be messy but I’ll keep an eye on it. I appreciate your insight, I mainly wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything or wasn’t doing anything I should. Im not sure the last time...
Last night when I was putting my flock away I noticed one of our Rhode Island reds was acting funny and had a dropped crown. She had what looked like sweat on her face and neck and was panting heavily. It’s been very hot here recently and she has just turned 5 years old, so I’m not exactly sure...
We recently got them from someone and I dont know the age. She did lay an egg yesterday, but she still wont walk alot. Other than that she seems fine. Here is a picture of her, I set her down by the water and she stood up while drinking. The other picture is from her back tailfeathers. I dont...
Yesterday one of our hens didnt come over for treats and I found he sitting down panting. It was 97 degrees yesterday and just as hot today so I assumed it was heat related and brought her inside and gave he time to cool off. Shes back out now and seems to be limping around and sitting down...
I have a hen that at night she makes loud noises like gasps. She doesnt do it during the day that I know of but I hear it putting them away at night. She just started laying eggs. Any idea what it could be?
I noticed these above one of my hens butts today. Shes been having a messy bottom and we recently lost a hen to flystrike so I've been checking her alot to make sure that wont happen. I think these are mites, which is better than maggots. How do I get rid of them? I know elector psp can work...
We are introducing a flock of adults, 5 hens and one australorp rooster to our flock of 2 buff orpingtons, 2 reds, and a well summer. Our chickens seem hostile and three of them fought with the big rooster. The rooster didnt start the fight but he participated in it. It ended quickly all three...
Ok sounds good, we are twisting wire around some of it and using the zip ties for up higher but I'll probably in the future use the metal wires around everything, but if it's good in the short term then it will work for now. Thanks for the input
