Hey all --
I'm having trouble with a clutch of ducklings, and I hope you can help.
I have hatched many chicks over the last couple of years, but these are the first duck eggs I've tried. I incubated them along with my chicken eggs, but I wet them down twice a day throughout incubation and then...
I've got bantam cochins in several colors. I have both smooth and frizzled pullets and cockerels in black and buff, also frizzled black hens and roosters. I've also got frizzled birchenish roosters and smooth wheatenish cockerels. All are just as adorable as a bantam cochin can get.
Pullets...
I have both blue copper and blue wheaten cockerels available. They range in age from roughly 6 months to roughly 9 or 10 months. These guys are a great way to bring dark egg laying genes into your flock without spending a ton of money!
I live a bit east of Nashville, but I may be able to...
Hey there --
I love frizzled bantam cochins.
If you are truly in Franklin, I'm not terribly far from you. Just a bit over an hour, probably. And I've got frizzled cochins that need homes. Drop me a line if you're interested!
The rumpless trait in araucanas is not lethal. In the araucana breed, the lethal trait is the ear tufting. Rumplessness just makes it harder for the birds to breed successfully -- thus lower fertility in the eggs. OTOH, I don't know anything about the short legged trait in the Japs!
Oh, and...
I tried to post a picture, but it looks like it didn't work. I also keep getting weird error messages. I ended up posting the same sales ad several times, because I didn't know it was going through!
I'll try again on the pic, but first I'm going to see if I can delete those double posts. Stay...
I have a few of these gorgeous little bantams available. You'll hardly ever see this rare variety for sale, so don't miss your chance at them!
D'Uccles are friendly and beautiful little birds. They make a great addition to any pet flock. These gold-necked d'Uccles are NOT the same thing as...
You need both!
The Wellies lay a more matte, speckled egg. There is less drama and politics surrounding the breed. OTOH a good Marans will lay a darker, shinier egg that tends to be more solid-colored, and there is more of a challenge in helping to improve the breed. So you need some of each!
I personally would not give a rooster away, unless I actually knew the person I was giving him to. IMHO that increases the chances that the person wants him for "bad" purposes.
I have sold some roosters for $5 each. I have also killed some myself. I hate to do that, but I figure that at least...
Put one of them in a cage where the two birds can see each other and interact. Leave them that way for several days. Then release both of them together, and watch carefully for any bullying. This is more likely to be a problem when the birds are very different in size.
Good luck!
Yeah, it's normal behavior. He's just starting to figure things out. Once he knows what he's doing, he probably won't be so rough and the girls probably won't object so much. Just give him time.
Tell her that I just saw a show on the Food Network the other day, where the host was in China and talking about eating the "famous black-boned chicken"......
