Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

That really sucks..yeah. I did get lucky. But my Plymouth rock acted like a cockerel for the longest time and she turned out being a pullet

Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

Agreed! It was worth it. I used to be afraid of my mom's broody hens in our past flock. But raising them myself from such close quarters makes you definitely more comfortable with handling them when they get older.

Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

Thank you! It was a pain raising them. I had to share my room with their brood box Lol

Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

Thank you guys. Good to hear so far. If I had any roos I would have to caponize them. I'm not allowed to keep roosters in my city and I only have three. They are for 4H Showmanship. And I love them. So it would be worth the money for the operation. We have a good poultry vet not too far away...

Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

Their run seems small in the photos but they have a lot of space under the raised coop as well. It is a good size for them. So don't worry!

Any roos among my nine week old chickens?

I have three nine week old chickens that are not sexed. I have two Lavender Orpingtons and a Barred Plymouth Rock. The slightly smaller lavender has an upright tail and seems to have larger waddles and comb? But not by much. The largest is either the other lavender or the Plymouth rock. The...

    Favorite duck breed and why?

I personally love the English Runner ducks. My mom used to own some. And they had ducklings that were adorable

    Toys for chickens

Of course! Also, keep in mind chickens are normally are not going to be outgoing and brave with a new item in the coop. They have a much higher sensitivity because they are prey animals. And have to be on alert to make sure a new thing isn't a new danger. So they won't be immediately...

    Toys for chickens

I will! I enjoy making them. Also, check the bird aisle in the pet stores! I've seen so many cool toys in those aisles that chickens would love. Just be aware that straw based toys are not ok. Your chickens could impact their crops by eating that stuff. But I did find cool toys with shredded...

    New to raising chics

Probiotics for chicks are supposed to be in their water until they are fully developed. Then you can choose to move to adult probiotics. And it's even more important if they seem weak

    New to raising chics

Sounds like a lot of them got starve out from shipping. Do you have the others on probiotic water?

    Toys for chickens

They just got the seed bell today. The feather toys are what I made myself. They like jumping up and tugging on the feathers or staring at them. It's great for breaking up boring wood color as well. Then I found two of my cats' old ball toys they weren't playing with anymore and cleaned them up...

    Toys for chickens

Well they survived the night and are spunky as ever today. Right now it's in the forties and they seem perfectly fine. But I have the window shut and the door to the run closed of course. When it gets a bit warmer I'll take the photos, but right now I just want to keep them draft free

    Toys for chickens

I will post some tomorrow! I currently have the pullets locked up for bed in the coop. It's getting night and it's still at a nice 50 something degrees and they also will warm each other so unless it drops to below 40 they might be sleeping out tonight

    The Pains of Pullets

I just tried your training approach with them for the first time! My Plymouth rock was feisty and didn't want to listen but she ended up giving in and walking up the ramp. The two Orpingtons were just waiting for her to fall in line. They don't like doing anything without her. They tend to...
