I love chickens! I am very interested in this position and will be sending you my resume shortly. BYC has been an invaluable source of information for poultry and a fantastic place to get acquainted with so many wonderful people. Purely Poultry supplied me with my guineas, which have been...
I admire Sarah Palin - she's not afraid to be who she is. She's not a jaded polished politician. If she doesn't believe that being a candidate will be good for her party, she will will throw her energy into promoting another with a better chance of winning. I find her very refreshing...

I'm sure chickens experience a vast array of emotions. I know my hen, Susan comes running out to meet me whenever I go in the back yard and waits to be picked up.
I shoveled a path from the coop to the water and covered it with hay. They have been venturing out and scratching in the hay. Two of my very brave hens, a Golden Comet and a Barred Rock something, continue to explore the world and lay an egg or two in the hay barn. The others will not venture...
I like your barn sign
Maybe I will try the hay path to the water dish. I don't have power in the roost, so they have to come to the house to get water. They are stuck outside until I get home at 1am
Thanks for the suggestion
We just got 6" of snow last night. Today, when I noticed my rooster and some of the hens had not budged from their roost all day, I carried the rooster and one hen to the heated water dish (20 yards away). They drank for a good long while. I went to work and DH just called to say they were...
I had to dispatch my beautiful rooster today. Although he did get up on his feet, he never really walked again. His comb got frostbitten on the last cold spell and he was getting very skinny, even though he had more than enough to eat.

They really didn't seem to notice the slice. There was some minor movement once most of the blood drained out. I did process 4 cornish x's this summer, but that did not go well at all. I didn't know about cones and some of the poor things got whacked 3 times. I felt like a monster...
I just finished sending my guineas and rooster to Freezer Camp. I tried pithing my first guinea but it didn't work. Maybe their head structure is too different,
Then I proceeded with slicing the jugular - that worked quite well and didn't really seem to upset them too much, had a really...
I cannot sign up this month - Lot's of people coming to the house for deer hunting & Thanksgiving. I have loved all the blocks I received and enjoyed making blocks to send. Hope to see you all next month.
God Bless you and have a Happy Thanksgiving
check out the post on "rat in the neighborhood" or do a search on "bucket mouse trap" I'm going to try that one, as we also have a mouse problem. They love my sunflower seeds and have ignored my peanut butter traps.

I am so sorry! I truly hope you don't know this from experience.
Yah, I have a partial and I sprinkled it in my flower garden for slugs (not food grade though, maybe that makes a difference) and the dust got in my mouth and when I took the partial out my gums were really raw!
