    Broody geese but no gander

I have 2 geese but no gander. They have both gone broody in their 2nd year—it’s been about 3 weeks now. Due to eggs being sterile, I gathered all, but they’re sitting the empty nests anyway. I make them leave at least once a day but they’re back from the pond usually within half an hour. What...

    African goose concern

Huh, I thought I'd replied to Jenbirdee about droppings and feed but don't see it here.... Dumor all-flock is available to them at their pen, but they free range all day at a pond. Not a lot of green right now (at least water weeds that I see them eating), but they do eat grass seed heads...

    African goose concern

No worse. Still seems to not be as energetic as her brood mate. After reading many past threads on Africans, perhaps it’s just female v. male difference in behavior/temperament? They were both supposed to be female, but I have my doubts due to small variances I’m beginning to see. Would you care...

    African goose concern

First-time geese mom. I have a 5-month-old African female that I'm concerned about. She eats and drinks ok, but she seems to be kind of lethargic. Whereas her brood mate is alert and quite active, she gets where she's going then stands or lies with her bill tucked onto her back between her...

    Wide stance/enlarged hips

How much B Complex do you put in their waterer, please? I’m looking for a rate per gallon. Thanks!!

    Wide stance/enlarged hips

Ugh. Not sure I can handle that by myself. Will give it a go.

    Wide stance/enlarged hips

Mazuri starter. I keep seeing people say they put the b complex in their water but I guess I missed the rate. It is the injectable from TSC, but I had to order it, and it’s Aspen rather than Durvet. Maybe theirs tastes different.

    Wide stance/enlarged hips

@Miss Lydia Hoping you won’t mind my hijacking this post. Can’t find the one I want to question! I got some liquid B Complex for my goslings but they hate the taste! Tried to give about 1/2 cc each on their favorite lettuce but they just tasted and shook their heads. One may have a touch of...

    Mallard questions

Thanks for the feedback. It’s been interesting observing them. Just love my ducks!

    Mallard questions

Two questions: adopted two (now) 7-mo-old female mallards and one khaki Campbell late summer. The khaki has laid but the mallards have not. Wondering if this is normal—if domestic mallards are seasonal layers like wild ones? Also, a previous duck I purchased looked to be a cross between KC and...

Duck and hen both changed their sex

I actually had a vet tech tell me today that happened to one of her ducks. I had no clue it was possible. But after molting, 2 of my 4 khaki campbell drakes did not get their dark head feathers nor their drake curls. I will be watching their behavior! 🧐🤔

    Attacked duck

Sorry for the delay. Did take pics this morning but was able to take her to the vet. Gloomy prognosis. Probable severed tendon and infection in joints. They offered to treat with antibiotics but didn’t believe she’d ever regain functional use of the leg IF antibiotics worked. I brought her home...

    Attacked duck

Advice please. My duck was attacked by probably a fox 2 weeks ago. Lost part of her upper bill and has a badly injured (likely broken) leg. The bill has actually healed better than expected and she is eating a wet mixture well, and her favorite peas. But the leg is still just dangling. She...

May I have opinions on these Tractor Supply coops?

We bought one for my ducklings and it was too small for anything but temporary protection till we got their outside coop/pen finished. Ditto what others said. I felt like I wasted my money as they aren’t cheap! Now I only use it for isolation needs. Not sure about where to get the Amish ones...

Raising ducklings with no electricity in summer

Now I’m having trouble with hawks. Mine free range and go to a pond during the day. They’ve been targeted and I’ve lost 2. Both females, of course. 🥺

Raising ducklings with no electricity in summer

I need to add ducks to a drake heavy flock. Our daytime temps here in my area of Texas are upper 90s and nighttime temps are in the 70s already. If I get more ducklings, how safe would it be to put them straight in an outside coop adjacent to the adults as long as I have plenty of fluffy...

Alternative to fence staples to attach cattle panel to wood

We made our duck run out of heavy, framed cattle panels (bull panels) wired to t-posts. We used a heavy gauge wire and double wrapped it tightly to the posts. It is quite solid.
