We have five in there now and it's a 10x20 run. Planning on building a larger coop and get away from this pre-fab one from TS. It works for now but I can see it rapidly being outgrown.
If I ever see a post hole digger again, it will be too soon. :p
The electric fence works, as tested and confirmed by my wife's Yorkshire Terrier. He won't go within 50 feet of it now. I can say with certainty that was a real lesson learned. ;)
All that's left to do is some sort of top...
Harrowing fields today while the wife does her thing for the home garden. I have a feeling my day will be quite a bit longer than hers, as will the weeks to come. :)
They knocked the lid off the feeder and I found one perching atop it today. Best I can do right now is an approximate 3/8" dowel and am wondering if I need to get a larger one real soon. Suggestions? Maybe a "branchy" piece of tree limb from the yard?
That's a great idea about venting and I never considered that. Thanks @cmom!
I'm going to use a 2 inch hole saw to make vent holes and staple gun some 1/4 inch hardware cloth over them on the inside.
.....I didn't even think about eagles until just now.
We have a nesting pair on the other side of the farm, about a mile away. Haven't seen them in a while but today I noticed one standing out in one of our yet to be planted fields. Doesn't happen often but I've seen one perched atop a...
I talked to a buddy of mine last night who has extensive experience with this fencing for livestock containment. His thoughts are one ground rod for a planned 30x30 fenced in run, possibly a little larger.
Our home sits smack dab in the middle of a 2000 acre rice farm. Rice is grown in...
Yep. I have the diagram that came with the charger. They recommend three rods spaced 10 feet apart. I bought everything, even extra parts just in case.
Ok, so we got this coop and it says suitable for 6 chickens, but I think not and plan on building a much larger one. In my mind this will be temporary until that goes up. I think we'll use this just to get them initially outside.
I'm thinking about sitting this on a wooden floor supported by...
This should provide my wife some good entertainment if ours turn out like that. They are "her" chickens but I'm already seeing signs that my job will be the head chicken wrangler around here.
Stamp collecting since I was old enough to know what a stamp was, and have a rather large collection spanning a book case full of albums. Then there is metal detecting. I got hooked on that by a friend that was a huge relic hunter. Recently invested in a new Minelab Equinox 800 detector and...
These came from TSC on March 26. Just in the few days we've had them, wings have appeared quickly and it's surprising how fast they seem to grow.
No idea what they are exactly aside from the store sign saying bantams. Trying to figure what type of bantam. I didn't think much of the whole...
New to chickens and I'm reading all I can about them. Started with 6 last week and one always seemed way less active than the others right from the start. I kind of had a feeling if we were to lose one it would be that one. The other 5 are doing great in their box I built and seem to like the...
