    Pekin’s Wing Tips

Hi all - I have a 2 1/2 year old Pekin duck, Winnie, and her wing tips have almost always had trouble coming in. I’m wondering if there could possible be a reason for this, or if anyone else has experienced this? And if there is a solution? This is a year round situation for her. She’s...

    Cayuga x Khaki Cambell Crossbreed

Hi all! My Cayuga (female) and Khaki Cambell (male) recently had a baby. She’s all grown up now, so she has all of her feathers. At first I thought she was fully brown (Khaki Cambell), but then I realized there is a greenish iridescence on her wing tips, kind of like a Cayuga’s wings. Just...

Shrink Wrapped Duckling - Please Help!

Thank you so much for your advice! It’s very helpful. I wish there was a clear cut answer, but I guess with assisted hatching there usually isn’t. We’re going to continue to slowly assist and will keep the thread updated.

Shrink Wrapped Duckling - Please Help!

Thank you so much for your reply! I think it doesn’t look shrink wrapped in the pic because I put petroleum jelly on the membrane (to keep it moist) so it looks invisible. It’s wrapped around the duckling pretty tight. Is that normal?

Shrink Wrapped Duckling - Please Help!

Quick update! The duckling made it through the night. Still peeping and moving. However, no progress has been made on getting out of the shell/membrane. Any advice on what to do now would be very helpful.

Shrink Wrapped Duckling - Please Help!

I appreciate your help! I feel like I’ve read endless articles involving shrink wrapping / hatching assistance and I’m having a hard time finding an exact solution to my situation. The duckling is still breathing and showing movement at the moment and it’s been about an hour since I peeled back...

Shrink Wrapped Duckling - Please Help!

My mama Cayuga was sitting on 5 eggs, but ended up killing 4 in their last days. I took the last viable egg inside in hopes to keep it alive. I don’t have an incubator, so I’ve been keeping it in a make shift brooder with a heat lamp at 100°. The duckling externally pipped 24 hours ago and...

    Cayuga Egg - Bad Egg?

Hello! My cayuga is currently sitting on 6 eggs. I keep checking every 2 days to make sure they’re all doing well. This egg has a lot of dark matter in it and it’s pretty hard to see. I’m pretty sure it’s a bad egg, but I figured I would get a few other opinions before ditching it, since I’m...

    Cayuga Egg - Fertile?

I think there are active veins. It’s hard to tell in the photos. It’s not much easier to see in person, either, actually. I think I’ll keep it and just monitor it every day or so. Thanks!

    Cayuga Egg - Fertile?

Hello! My Cayuga recently started sitting on her eggs about a week and a half - two weeks ago. I’m trying to decipher which eggs are fertile. I’m especially struggling with this one. I don’t think I can see any movement inside. It’s actually pretty hard to see what’s inside. Any thoughts?
