What to include in a dust bath?

Hi guys So I want to introduce my chickens to a dust bath this spring but not sure what to use. I plan on using a shallow tubrug for the container and using soil from my garden mixed with kids play sand and some diatomaceous earth. Would that suffice? I’ve heard of people using wood ash but I...

What time of year to incubate eggs (UK)

Hi all, Hope everyone is well. Just wondered when do people start incubating eggs? I usually start around March time as that is when spring kicks in for us in the UK and the weather is starting to get better, and I usually stop around July so the birds are a decent size when winter hits. What...

    Mycoplasma gallisepticum advice

Hi guys. I believe my flock is infected with M. Gallisepticum. They are chicks around 4 months old and are constantly sneezing, have bubbles in their eyes, nasal discharge and quite lethargic. This has been going on for around 5 days now and was doing some research and believe it may be that. I...

    The Incubation Thread

Thank you! This is only my second time hatching so I’m still very early to incubating but it worked well last time and this time so think I may have found how to set humidity perfectly for my incubator. I feel if I had a hygrometer I would just panic if it went out of parameters and cause more...

    The Incubation Thread

My incubator doesn’t display humidity (and foolishly I don’t have any hygrometers to check humidity) but I have a Brinsea Maxi advance and for the first 18 days I only fill one side of the reservoir with water and on lockdown I will fill both reservoirs fully with water.

Just thought I’d give a quick update. I’ve had 9 out of 10 eggs pip, so hopefully they hatch overnight or tomorrow (which will be day 21) hoping the last egg pips aswell. It would be nice to get all 10 eggs hatched out. Looking forward to seeing some nice colourings on them

    The Incubation Thread

Heyyy, Really sorry I’ve just had a whole load going on so haven’t really been checking on here at all. Hope you’re doing well. Tbh I haven’t really been doing much with the eggs, just been filling up water for humidity every other day and candled once around day 11. I found 4 eggs unfertilised...

    Chest infection?

Yeah checked and there’s no obstruction and his crop is empty in the mornings. I’ve also been feeding him oil soaked bread just in case there was anything stuck to try and get it down.

    Chest infection?

Hi, I have a silkie-polish cross cockerel who is around 8 months old. He is acting perfectly normal ie eating drinking pooping etc. However when he breaths it sounds like a wheeze/gurgling sound and was wondering is this a chest infection? And is there anything I can do to treat this?
