    Help! Possible broken hip/thigh

Also every door, lid, access panel, and window shutter has a latch of some kind on it. And I tend to mount them to where you have to use a bit of force to either latch or unlatch them.

    Help! Possible broken hip/thigh

Thank you! She’s got a fiery personality so I have faith she’ll recover. Just need some pointers to help her out. And in regards to how they’re getting in, I haven’t decided that’s the case but my thoughts would be they lifted the little chicken door (which weighs about 6-7 lbs) and snatched...

    Help! Possible broken hip/thigh

Hello all! So a little history is needed on this one. We’ve had a running problem with raccoons and opossums killing our birds at night. So the other night when I was woken up by the noise of a chicken fighting I ran outside to their yard. Well it was pitch black almost and something came...

Silkie colors; so much fun 😁

I’m really curious what color this one will be. I’ve seen stripes on baby silkies but I’ve never seen them so defined like this. Any ideas or guesses about what y’all think it is?

    Young Pekin duck stopped laying

The interesting thing about it is that she laid after the first 2 times but when my oldest went was when she stopped. When I had first introduced them those two fought a lot but after 2 weeks of that they became best friends and ruled the yard together. I guess losing her friend threw her over...

    Young Pekin duck stopped laying

So last week, I had the misfortunate opportunity of having a raccoon dinner guest for 3 nights in a row till I caught it and dispatched it. It started with my 3 bantam roosters, then it was 2 young pullets, and then the final time it was my oldest and biggest hen(barely over a year old) and my...

4 and 5 toed Silkie chicks

This is a link to the lady’s ad on Craigslist https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/grd/d/acworth-baby-chicks-silkies-sizzles/7367519114.html It has a lot of photos of the birds she’s had and her breeding stock. So I don’t need to worry really? So far the only thing they seem to have trouble doing...

4 and 5 toed Silkie chicks

So I purchased some Silkie chicks from a lady that’s local and I noticed they had poopy feet when I had gotten them home so while I was washing their feet I decided to look at their toes and noticed that out of the 3 one had 4 toes on each foot and the other two had 4 on one foot and 5 on the...

    Barred Rock with Silkie feathers

So it would be closer to the 3rd generation before I saw the beginnings of any headway? This isn’t disheartening news for me so thank you!

    Barred Rock with Silkie feathers

Hello all! So I’m contemplating an idea and I’d like for y’all to tell me whether I’m cracked in the head or if this is achievable. I’d like to cross Silkie’s and Barred Rocks to achieve: 1.) No barbicels 2.) the barring 3.) the single comb 4.) the black/purple skin of the Silkie 5.) the...

    Playing the waiting game

Hey y’all, so I’ve got 3 pullets that just reached 18 weeks old today. 2 Barred rocks and 1 Australorp. And 1 of the barred rocks, Barbara, shows all signs of laying, about 2.5 fingers width at the pelvic bones, but her vent is still all puckered up. The other 2 girls comb and wattles are...

3 day old baby chicks keep pecking each other’s wings

Thank you very much! I guess my worrying is just my newness showing. Haha it’s good to know this is normal behavior although I still plan on doing the fixed tennis ball. I hung a fuzzy towel over a part of the side wall and put shiny marbles in the brooder as well just to be safe.
