Hi, our hen Betsy is 4 years old. A few days ago, we noticed she was lethargic and would randomly lose her balance and not be able to get up. Her comb got paler and her eyes are kind of squinty (no discharge).
We immediately isolated her inside and started supportive therapy - electrolytes...
Unfortunately I don't, I'd have to buy some.
I have never seen any aggression with the boys, nor has my daughter who spends more time hanging out with them. I would be shocked if the other boys were attacking him, but there is no signs of a predator entering their pen, either, unless it was...
Hi, thank you both for responding. I just tried to get a pic but he’s not cooperating and I’m the only one here. The bigger wound appears to be under his wing on his body. Just curious though, what kind of predator would attack a duck… and lose? And why would it attack the biggest duck and not...
Hello! We have a bachelor pen with three drakes that we hatched ourselves. They’ve always been harmonious, but yesterday in the morning our big boy, Kingsley, was missing some feathers. Then this morning he was all bloody :(:(. Could the boys be fighting at night? We have three duck hens in the...
Thanks! I honestly don’t. It was our first time hatching so maybe temps were off a bit? But we did get 5 healthy ducklings out of ten eggs who are now thriving! 😊
Thank you all! We got them from people we don’t know (a classmate gifted hatching eggs to my daughter), so my guess is they have mixed breeds. Here are all of them together.
She/he does not look like their 4 siblings! We can’t figure it out. We received the eggs from one of my kid’s classmates and have no idea what breeds they have. Thanks!
Thank you, it had passed away by this morning :(. It seemed very weak inside the egg. Fortunately we have 5 healthy ducklings to enjoy from this hatch.
We've had 5 healthy, beautiful mallard-type ducklings hatch out of 10 eggs so far. The remaining eggs in the incubator have no external pips. I candled them, and they all seem to be quitters.
Except 1! There was a little bill waving around in the air cell. But there is no external pip yet. We...
Thank you both! We woke up to a second, bright yellow duckling this morning, healthy and VERY vocal. Three more eggs have pipped. I’m so happy and relieved as the waiting and wondering really did my head in 🤪.
We are shocked. He went from an external pip to a zip in 12 hours and unzipped in less than an hour! He is peeping away and stumbling around the incubator.
Do I leave him in there for awhile? Only one other egg has pipped. Do the 8 other eggs still have a chance to pip and hatch? It is Day 27...
