That's really the best way to deal with the stray. Some shelters have a program called TSR trap, spay or neuter and release. They will notch a cat's ear or tattoo them to indicate they are not reproducing.
Thank you for your remarks. Just releasing them is actually cruel.
Thank you for educating me!
I use a 35 gallon plastic trash can with the ports that screw into them on the lower area of the can. It's elevated so it's easier for them to reach. I can put in about 150 pounds of feed and it will last over a month. With new chickens integrated into my flock, they might use that feed in three...
My babies get raised feeders and waterers. Eyeball a level waterer by looking in the tray. I keep bits and pieces of things around to level up their caterers. I may use a brick or inverted plastic dish to raise them slowly as the chicks grow. I'll use a couple of bricks around food and water...
Our eggs are never washed. Thr last stage as it is laid is a protective coating.
They go on my counter top. No chilling incase I have requests for hatching eggs or for egg glassing. Never wash before these two uses.
I will gently wipe the eggs with a dry paper towl if they have any dirt, poo, or...
Short Story...
In 1978 my first views of The County (Aroostook Co, ME) made me feel sorry for those poor people! I grew up impoverished in SE Arkansas and after seeing their houses, I felt rich!
It took a couple of weeks living there to realize what I thought were houses were actually potato...
My chick looked the same. Some said sebright for weeks. It has grown into a Bantam peabrain...Oops! Peacomb rooster of the Spangled Hamburg sort.
Seabright said several folks for weeks here on BYC. Its markings were identical to yours.
My chick is a Bantam Spangled Hamburg roo. Here's his most...
Growing up in SE Arkansas, my uncle laid tin sheets under the 2-3' raised part of our house. He'd spread the potatoes out there with all sides open to cure. Then storage became the well house for winter. That cure time is most important.
Best to you!
I sometimes had meat chickens who displayed a splayed leg after a big growth spurt.
I'd put them in a cat kennel the hard case type for airplane travel to restrict movement. It would have a the food and water needed and within a few days it'd be back to normal.
Glad yours turned out ok...
When young, we'd put raw egg in our hair while shampooing. We also used rainwater for hair and almost everything we could.
I've made my own maple syrup but have not had birch syrup!
I love molasses! Gotta look for some now!
Thanks@
I do the same feed back, too. My girls won't touch them in the nest or even one laying on the ground whole.
When I go into the nest box area they come running! They wait expectantly at the doorway. If there's an especially nasty looking egg I toss it out into an empty feed pan just for that...
