i swithched the bulb to a 75 w reptile light and plan on using it on really cold nights. the perch i have is round thats 2 1/2 inches in diameter and when they are on it i cant see their toes so i assume its fine. i am still on the search for a high low thermometer to see how low the temp gets...
i have three chickens and there are eave vents and a cupula on top for added ventilation. there are no drafts. i hung the light right under the cupula. it s hard to tell what the temp is because when i open the door to check it lets cold air in

the food im using is prince animal feed. 20 percent protein 3.5 percent calcium is that to high for a 4 1/2 month old. they also free range 4 hours a day. i do have a older(unknown age but full grown)red star hen that has been laying daily so thats why i have been feeding the layer
