😂 That IS cold to a chicken! Chickens need to have access to food and water from sun up until sundown. You don't need to have food or water for them overnight as they are only going to be perching and staying safe off the ground.
My hen is on Doxycycline suspension and we cannot eat her eggs for the duration of her treatment and the withdraw period is for 8 weeks per her avian veterinarian. If you are in Northern California I highly recommend you use these veterinarians for your birds they only see birds...
Your girl sounds like she has what happened to my girl. With my girl Goldie it was like she tried to eat but couldn't, same with liquids. Her crop stopped emptying overnight, she'd drink but then flick her head and water and food would run back out. It was not sour crop it was never stinky, but...
I am in Stockton, I considerer us hands down Northern California. I would say the dividing line should be around Bakersfield or Kettleman City if it ever came down to it.
Wow I never knew of a eye worm! About how long are these worms? Thank you to Dawg53 I never heard of it but already I know the solution to resolve it! I love these forums!
I was wondering how to deal with this behavior and now I know to dance back at him. I can't wait for my neighbor to catch me doing that, they already think i'm a crazy chicken lady!!!
I use thee old sneak attack and wait until they are perched at night and then do a quick trim of the poopy feathers. I just had to do this last night as a matter of fact due to the rain. My girl Ruby was quite happy for the help as she helped by spreading out her butt feathers for me, plus she...
My rooster that passed away last year (Blanco) was so passive that when it hit 104 degrees outside, he let me put him in a 5 gallon bucket of water and he just chilled in the bucket floating for maybe 5 minutes then got out by himself. I still have a hen Frecles she is now letting me pick her...
We have 85ft of floor space in our coop which is like 17sq ft per chicken with 5 chickens. Once out of the coop it is free range baby for our babies, they have plenty of space to roam!
I know this may sound silly but have you tried putting her out into the coop at night? That has been the best time for me adding a new addition or one that was injured and had to be reintroduced to the flock.
I say Yes with a bantam, I had my little bantam Roo and he followed me everywhere. Granite he did have a backyard, but preferred to be inside sitting on me. I would take that little guy everywhere with me and people loved him everywhere that I went.
I have never heard of the Neem before but it may be the easiest for me as far as treating the yard. My problem is I have stray chickens that think i'm their mommy too, so they are always in my yard and hanging out with my flock.
I'm pretty good at dropping eggs probably 1-2 a week. Worse is going to get my eggs and finding them pecked open and ruined, it makes the dogs happy though!
