Woah! So interesting! I didn't know this! I looked it up! Thank you so much for pointing this out to me! I could have "taken care" of him a lot earlier.
This is one of those times in life I just need someone else to say that what I think is true, is true, even if I don't want it to be true :)
This chicken is four months old (18 weeks)
It is from a Barred Rock hen and an Ameraucana (BBS) rooster
If it is male, it's not part of our breeding plan...
Yes, thank you. You know there is a picture on the cackle site that shows a chick that looks EXACTLY like this one did when it was smaller. https://www.cacklehatchery.com/product/silver-spangled-hamburg/
Thank you for the help!! Darn that I don’t have a place for a small roo around here. :(
I won't be helpful answering your questions, but I just want to say how cute he is and that it's great you have a sweet bond. Hope you can get some insight.
Hello wonderful poultry people.
First week of July, I received the following from Murray McMurray hatchery:
35 - CXRS JUMBO CORNISH X ROCK Unsexed
1 - FRCS Free Surprise Chick Unsexed
5 - NIES Niederrheiner Unsexed
Typically, when I get a mystery chick, it's similar to the ones in the order...
I am posting this to help anyone in the future or if anyone has insights for what could have caused my issue. I had a very sad case this morning. Firstly, my Bresse hatch went very badly. Of 28 eggs that I set 03/08, I had ONE hatch out healthy and one that hatched but sadly, we put down. It...
I know this is old, but I wanted to add to it because I have a weird similarity. I also have had a bad hatch with my Bresse. Of 28 eggs, I got one to hatch and there is one "maybe" that is still "cooking". But, it had the weird glue as well. The poor thing could not get out of the egg...
I have to report that Rupert is no longer and the flock is very much at ease. Scarlet (the hen with the horrible head wound) is not being bothered at all by any of the other hens, in fact she eased back into their graces quite quickly. Poppy (the one missing feathers on her head) is no longer...
Thank you all.
I do believe that the initial wound was caused by the rooster that we already eliminated, but since Rupert is reopening her wound when he mates her, I believe we will end his life today. Hopefully Briggs, our other guy will be gentle with her. Or else, I guess we will just not...

I am looking for advice from those of you who have experience with Roosters. I have only been raising chickens for one year and the addition of roosters only came with the little ones we raised up last Spring. Our current flock consists of seven hens...
This is a super old thread here, but my chicken is doing the same thing. I am wondering if anyone has any insight on this since 2014. Her situation is similar to the original poster's. She was attacked by her flock. She had a massive wound on the back of her head that was about three inches...
Thank you all. Sometimes you just really need to hear it from other people ;)
I guess Bridget may need a name change. Briggs, perhaps :)
We shall see how he behaves. So far, he's not mean, just super elusive. The ladies pick on him quite a bit, which is probably a good thing- showing them...
Hello. Bridget is a BLUE (BBS) AMERAUCANA from Meyer Hatchery born 09/07/21, so just shy of 5 months. We ordered her as a female, so I have always thought of her as such. But for the past couple months, I have not been so sure. She has always been super skiddish. Then I noticed the feathers...
