I rescued a battery hen about 6 months ago. She has always gone to bed later than my other chickens but has always been in bed by sunset. In the last couple of weeks she has started wandering around the garden at night. Is this normal? Its 10pm now and I have just gone out to check the horses...

Hi Kristi Thanks for your reply. The problem is that all our chickens (we only have about 10) live together and "free range" around our property thus it would be impossible to seperate them. I was hoping I could do it "naturally" and that it would be as simple as if I brougt in another rooster...

I have one rooster whos father recently died. We have two of his sisters and his mother in addition to a couple of non-related hens. How do I prevent him from mating with his relatives? Will he want to? Do I need to re-home them or sahould I get another rooster?
