Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Well, I am right there with you!! I feel like quite the dummy after loosing a chicken to FLS. I thought I was doing so well and totally had this chicken figured out. Apparently I still have a lot to learn!

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Hi, Thank you for that. I have just been doing research into that. It was definitely FLS. Her liver was discolored and spotted and I believe she had most of the symptoms. I will be doing a deep dive into what is going on and what I could be doing wrong. Thank you for your help.

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Wow - that is a wealth of information. Thank you so much. I would have never thought about any of that. I’m going to go do a thorough examination of their foraging grounds. It sound like I need to get that book. Thanks again!!

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Thanks for the great advice. That sounds terrible - I’m sorry you have to live around that. I’ll contact my county extension - I was wanted to test the soil anyway for our garden next year. From what I can tell - I’m dealing with mites. I think that is the main offender. Once I realized that...

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

I did change how I was feeding them. I actually was only feeding store bought pellets for the past few months. I had new chicks I introduced to the flock, so I went to feeding everyone organic feed from the store in order to make sure the growing chicks were getting the right nutrition. I put...

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Thank you. I’ll probably do that. I was thinking of trying to do it myself - but I don’t know how. I have been able to better look at that bird (Clementine). She has a very swollen belly. I thought maybe egg bound but I don’t think so - I treated for that and no egg also I think she would have...

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Thank you so much. I’ll give those a try. I live 1 1/2 hrs from the nearest town and I haven’t been able to find a vet for my goats let alone chickens. I’m afraid I’m on my own.

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

I never considered that. From what I know it was just a family living here and they had animals. But they didn’t do well and gave up and sold the farm. I don’t know about chemicals - I do know I found evidence of the previous owners burning plastic so I know they weren’t environmentally...

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

I don’t like the sounds of that. 😞 doesn’t the flu come with respiratory problems?

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

Hi. Thanks for a reply. I have been putting coconut oil (because it’s antibacterial) and a Vassaline like salve in their face - Vicks on their legs. I thought of favas but isn’t it ringworm? Does it cause feather loss at the neck? Mine don’t have that. Also, this isn’t chalky - it’s more moist...

Entire flock Sick - I FEEL HOPELESS!!! Swollen Faces - Yellow patches - Lethargy

I have been searching the web and this site and can’t seem to find a diagnosis. It started out with a move to a new house and barn. We cleaned and disinfected the barn and moved everyone in. At first everyone was doing great. Then one month in everyone stopped laying. Not just slowed down - but...

Black bumps on toes - is this bumble foot?

Thank you for your reply. It isn’t frostbite - this is a new rooster I got as a chick this spring - so maybe 4 months old. We just moved to a new home and my chickens are now in a barn with a concrete floor. Their coop section has bedding of pine pellets and hay, but the rest of the barn is...

Black bumps on toes - is this bumble foot?

Hi. I have a rooster that is limping and when I inspected his foot, I noticed he had hard lumps on each toe along with a black spot - on both feet. I just treated my first hen with bumble foot - but that was on her toe close to the pad of her foot and it was only one spot. So i am not sure if...

Emergency! PLEASE HELP!! Prolapsed Vent? Gleet?

I know this post didn't get many responses. But just in case someone stumbles upon it in search of help for the same problem - I wanted to give an update. My chickens chances of survival looked mighty dim - but I didn't give up on her. I figured as long as she was breathing and not in pain - she...

Emergency! PLEASE HELP!! Prolapsed Vent? Gleet?

I’m having a terrible month - owned chickens for a year and never had any problems. We just bought a home a month ago and now all my chickens are getting sick and having problems. I just found my polished hunched and not looking well this morning. Checked her over and found a prolapsed vent. I...

Chicken Attacked by Fox and Now Sick

Hey! I happen to have a watermellon sitting on my counter. I will try that tomorrow. Her comb and wattles are definitely redder than usual. Her coughing and such seem to be getting better. Fingers crossed!

Chicken Attacked by Fox and Now Sick

Thanks for your help. I have never had a chick with respiratory anything. She doesn’t have bubbles in her eyes - but i did see her sneeze out mucus. Her crop is fine, but she feels really warm. Her comb, wattles and tummy all feel warm/hot. Do chickens get fevers? The gurgle has subsided - just...
