    First time processing

I started at about 7am and I finished the actual bird processing and bagging at about 7:30pm on day one. Now, I had to clean the plucker, dump blood and mucky water and some other cleaning as I worked, and I split and bar-b-qued four birds while working. Oh, and I ran out of propane while...

    First time processing

I started with removing all feet and heads then iced the birds. I was not concerned with rigor mortis setting in and hurrying to tuck legs. I also have small hands with long fingers. I reached in all the way up into the cavity, cupped the organs, rotated my hand slowly and pulled out all of the...

I guess it does look like a giant egg

I spend a lot of time hanging out with my chickens, so I wanted to create a more comfortable place for myself. As I was working today, my neighbor asked if I was building myself an egg. Well, I thought, it does look like the start of a giant egg!

    Two pullets died today

It is a red heating lamp that is clipped to a ladder so I can raise to reduce heat. There is a thermometer hanging from rhe side of my brooder, showing 82 degrees. I am still very new to raising chickens but I used this set up for all of my other chickens. Also, I changed the pine shavings...

    Two pullets died today

The SG was two weeks old and the BR was three weeks old. The BR was being really weird, lethargic and uninterested in water or food. They were still in the house in a brooder...new coop for the OGs. They eat Purina medicated chick feed and I change the water several times a day.

    Two pullets died today

One of my BR and one of my SG died today within four hours of one another. The BR was lethargic this morning at about 8am and by noon had expired. I went out to assemble my 30 minute OverEZ large coop (which took three and a half hours) and when checked my chicks and one of my SGs was dead. I am...

    Naming chickens

No, they do not have a minimum. And Vanilla was two weeks old, so she was sold to me for $1. I have a set of broilers too. I bought all they had one Sunday afternoon (21) and paid 50 cents each. They kinda have names. My mother interchangeably refers to them randomly as Stewie, Curry, Crispy...
