My pullet started laying about 2 weeks ago, and has been laying one egg a day. Really??? I thought Buff Orpington is not known for egg production. She is very punctual and always lays 2 hours after sunrise.
Hi, I have a white leghorn about 8 months old. She was laying fine initially (from 4.5 months old). And then, recent month or so, she started to just lay directly on the roost, and in the middle of night like 2-3AM! (I have recordings that showed it...) I searched on the forum and didn't see a...
yea, I don't have a video to know what actually happened. The leghorn was squatting near the corner, while wyandotte was anxiously wandering. I also noticed a feather stick on one side of the wyandotte's face... there was definitely a chaos, although I didn't really see anything else other than...
I also thought about that. My coop is in a fully enclosed big run, and the coop itself is also fully enclosed with only a wired window. I checked for signs of any intrusion immediately after, and couldn't really see anything, so it's kinda unlikely to me.
Could it be that the leghorn got scared...
I have two 4-month old pullets, one is a white leghorn, and one is a golden laced wyandotte. Both are getting along well and were raised up from day-old. I did have a third Buff Orpington Cockerel who I sadly got rid of last week. When the cockerel was still there, he was obviously the highest...
I just started raising mealworms with a plastic container. I put rolled oats as bedding, and then I put carrots on top. After a few days, I saw most of the worms are crowding near the edge of the box as if they want to run away. See picture below. Anything I didn't do correctly?
Jack is a 2.5 month old Buff Orpington rooster. As much as I wished he was a hen when we got him as a day old. Please see his picture in this thread. Let me know if you are interested in adding him to your hen flock and I am willing to deliver him...
Location: Cupertino, CA
Name: Jack
Age: 2.5 months
Breed: Buff Orpington
Size: Large
Weight: Unknown
About: We thought he was "Rose" when we got it from the feed store, and raised him from day old. He just started crowing every morning, but not very loud. He is lovely, and should be an...
I just posted in the thread... thanks to TheFrogLady's excellent suggestion.
Another controversial idea that came to mind is to get a no-crow collar. I know I might be stirring another pot by asking feedbacks on this one... but I am inclined towards trying it if I can't find a trustable source...
Thanks for everyone's input. I am not releasing Jack into the wild, just to be clear. Asked I guess there was just a tiny part of me that was wishful. But won't do that with all you guys' firm input. :)
I called a couple SPCA/rescue place. Either they are closed due to COVID or they say they don't take chickens.
Honestly, I agree that the best bet is to bring him to an animal rescue place of some sort. Otherwise, I think he is dying soon one way or another.
thanks. checking with them now.
I know the answer is mostly no, but still want to ask if it'd be wise to release him into the wild. I know probably won't survive, but at the same time, giving him to these people also means he likely won't survive either.
Also speaking of wild chickens, I know...
Thanks! Sounds like he is more likely to die soon than anything else. He is 2.5 months old and already crowing every morning 5:30..., just not very loud. Not sure when it'll become a big issue. I am afraid my neighbors will write me up to the city if I let it live a few weeks more.
Apparently, I didn't expect my buff Orpington to be a rooster, but there you go. I couldn't keep it in my backyard without raising eyebrows among my neighbors (I live in a relatively dense city neighborhood).
I tried to post it on craigslist/nextdoor, and I found most people asking didn't sound...
He is so adorable... but I am becoming disillusioned with the crowing today and yesterday. Also, that explains why he hates my petting so much. Every time I approaches he clucks and runs like crazy, like seeing a death star coming. Is a juvenile cockerel supposed to behave like that?
I've got a buff Orpington who was 2.5 months old. This morning, I heard surprisingly repeated crowing and was waken up (about sunrise). Then I checked the surveillance video and realized that he was crowing yesterday as well... Is it that I have a rooster? See this video... and let me know how...
