    Pullet started laying, them stopped?

After I removed all the eggs from her hidden nest, she laid her egg in the nest box today like a big girl! Thanks everyone for the advice!

Breathing problems after dog attack? And questions about feather regrowth

I don’t know what was going on, but he’s not making that noise anymore! His breathing sounds perfectly normal now. His feathers are starting to grow back too, so he should be back with his hens soon. Thank you very much, I’ll probably try to get a hold of some Tylan50 just in case.

Breathing problems after dog attack? And questions about feather regrowth

I checked his crop last night and it was full, and this morning it was empty, so I don’t think that’s a problem thankfully. I couldn’t see or feel any unusual swelling or anything that looks like an air pocket, although I’m still relatively new with chickens so I might just not be looking properly.

    Pullet started laying, them stopped?

Well what do you know, this morning when I let her out I saw her take off running into the bushes, and when I followed her I found her sitting on a makeshift dirt “nest” with about 5 other eggs in it 😂 So you were all right, thanks! I’ll have to keep them all locked in their run soon anyway...

💖 The Offical Easter Egger Lover’s Thread 💖

I’ve heard bad things about EEs online, but I absolutely adore mine. Such big personalities, they never fail to make me smile. I have three, my rooster Jack Black, my hen Dorian Gray, and my pullet Plum. Jack doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, has a beautiful crow, and makes puppy-dog eyes at...

    Pullet started laying, them stopped?

Haha, I might just do that. She’s definitely at the bottom of the pecking order since she’s the youngest of my birds, so she might be getting chased out of the nest boxes.

    Faverolles Thread!

My poor little Tessie’s going through her first molt - and her beard feathers regrowing makes her look like a scruffy guy with morning stubble 😂😂😂

    Pullet started laying, them stopped?

I have an EE pullet, not sure her exact age but she was hatched this spring. At the beginning of August she laid a tiny blue egg (I know it was her since she’s the only one that could be laying blue eggs), and in the next few days she laid a couple more. Then suddenly, she stopped laying and...

Breathing problems after dog attack? And questions about feather regrowth

I’ve been giving him penicillin, I started giving it to him last Tuesday and today’s his last day on it - the package said to give it for 5 days. I believe he’s had about a gram, it’s the kind that’s mixed in with his water and he’s been drinking well. PoultryDVM suggested penicillin for animal...

Breathing problems after dog attack? And questions about feather regrowth

Ok, I will try to be more gentle. Maybe it’s because I have to hold him down on his side to get to all the wounds to clean them, and that could be squishing him. However he does it sometimes when he’s just standing around, and his crop was empty when I checked it this morning. If there’s air...

Breathing problems after dog attack? And questions about feather regrowth

I have a Brahma rooster, about a year and a half old, who was attacked by a dog about a week ago. He had several open wounds, one that tore his skin open enough that I could see the muscles underneath. Thankfully his wounds are healing very well (with daily cleaning and isolation in a hospital...

    Is this bumblefoot?

Hi, I’ve treated bumblefoot into the past but this looks a bit different. I have a year-old Faverolles rooster with a weird black spot on his toe, right under his nail. It’s hard to the touch - the whole pad of his toe feels hard - but not hot. He’s not limping or anything, acting totally...

    Nesting boxes for huge hens?

She’s a surprisingly decent flyer, she can jump up on roosts with no problem. I have one of those prefab coops inside an indoor run (a converted garage) so the hens don’t have to sleep inside it and can use roosts. I think the opening of the coop is too small for her, so I’m looking to get a...

    Nesting boxes for huge hens?

I’m just not sure that the opening on most litter boxes I’ve seen would be big enough for her, but maybe if I check out a pet store I can look for the biggest litter box they have haha

    Faverolles Thread!

I love my Faverolles! They’re the first chickens I ever got, they’re so adorable and sweet! My hens definitely aren’t breed-standard or anything but I still think they’re lovely!

    Nesting boxes for huge hens?

I bought an enormous black Orpington hen (~9 months old) last December, and she seemed like she had taken a break from laying until recently. I’ve been finding eggs on the ground in her run. I’m pretty sure she’s too big to fit into the nest boxes I have now. Anyone have any recommendations for...

    Frostbitten comb?

Thank you so much, I’m glad to know he’s not in pain. I think one of my hens has a bit of frostbite too, she has a particularly big floppy comb so I’m not surprised. I think in the future I’ll keep breeds with smaller combs instead since the weather where I live can stay below freezing for weeks...

    Frostbitten comb?

Hello, this is my first winter keeping chickens and I’m pretty sure my cockerel (6mo Faverolles) has frostbite in his comb. Last week, I was pretty sick after getting my COVID vaccine booster, and I didn’t clean their coop as well as I should have. I left the air vent closed and didn’t clean up...

Hen attacked by dog, lost feathers - what should I do?

Thanks, that’s a good idea! I used to use that stuff on horses when they’d rub their fur out
