Is that too low? Is the humidity right? Last time I didn't get very many chicks that hatched and some looked fully developed and never pipped so I want to make sure this is right... I didn't have a humidity thermometer last time, this time I have two in there, one says 63 and the other 64%...
Thanks, yes this does help. I didn't candle my eggs, they are so dark (marans) it was hard... so I will put them in lockdown not tomorrow but the next day I guess. Thanks!
I'm hoping this hatch will go better than the last! So just to confirm tomorrow is day 18, I started the eggs in the incubator at 12:00 p.m. and counted that as day 1. So tomorrow on day 18, is that when I put them in lockdown? Or do I wait until the day after? I just want it to go well...
I think it was the morning of the 19th day that I bumped up humidity and put them in lockdown... Do you think that is why I had problems? If I start Day 1 at 8:00 a.m. in the incubator, should I put them in lockdown on day 18 at 8:00 a.m.? Sorry to sound dumb, I just want to do this right this...
okay awesome! thanks everyone! I will go get that from walmart today, my eggs actually will arrive today so I will tip them large end up overnight to setup and then put them in tomorrow... I hope this is better, it killed me to see the chicks so developed inside the eggs but not to hatch.
Okay, so I took the rest of the egg out and cracked them to see what had happened. 5 had not developed, basically looked like cracking a regular egg. There were 8 that looked completely developed, but never pipped! From what I've read it sounds like my humidity was too low, is that what...
Sounds great! Thanks for the advice! I saved one last night!!!!! It had been trying to get out for 2 days, a beautiful little wheaten maran, my husband and i zipped it around the edge from the pipped hole that it had made, and I watched for an hour while nothing happened and then went to bed...
Aaaaaaahhhhh - so stressed, this is consuming me.... hahaha
Okay, I opened the incubator and had somebody spraying warm water in it as I did it, and then quickly turned the egg that had pipped, so I could see the hole because the other chicks kicked it over and I couldn't tell if it was making...
Oh and by the way - the two little Black Copper Maran chicks are the cutest things I have ever seen... one of the chicks trying to get out is a Wheaten and I really wanted at least one of those.... cross your fingers!!!!!
Thanks for the help everyone! One little chick broke a hole about 21 hours ago and it still doesn't seem to be making that much progress, you can just see it's little beak opening and closing as it chirps, same with another one that broke a hole last night. Shouldn't they be working on getting...
Okay, so it is day 23 and I have had 2 hatch a day apart and there are two that have pipped and are trying to get out, but it seems they have been trying for a while now. Do you think they will make it? I saw another egg that hasn't pipped moving a lot last night, so I still have hope that...
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Right after I was on here last I checked again and a totally different egg started to hatch and the chick was completely out within in an hour, it was so amazing to watch!!!! The other chick is cleaning it off, so cute! So now I am at the end of day 22 and...
Thanks for the reply! I keep pushing refresh over and over hoping somebody will reply I am just so stressed about what is going to happen to my little chickies. I did open the incubator about 5 hours ago for like 5 seconds, it was before the other chick started to pip and there was only one...
Okay, I am hatching chicks for the first time. I got a nice incubator and put 18 eggs in there, I was very careful and have done exactly what I supposed to be doing based on all of the research I have done. Yesterday was day 21 and at about 7:00 p.m. I had my first little egg hatch... not a...
