Thank you! It's getting a little better every day.
For the birds now I put any meds I have to pill in a #00 gelcap, then push it down the side of the throat. Sometimes I chase it down with a lil water in an oral syringe. I like using this method because I can see the pill go down, and there's...
Yes! Baikal Skullcap. I'm actually taking an herbal antiviral mix right now from my acupuncturist for this nasty respiratory thing I've been dealing with myself. And one of the ingredients is skullcap! Good for birds and humans alike
It is so hard when they have these recurring respiratory problems. I wonder if runners are more prone to them. Phoebe first got very sick when she was young, and it caused permanent damage to her lungs. I only use pine shavings for their bedding, so I think Phoebe's fungal infection is from too...
Such a sad, heartbreaking thread. You really went the distance for Poppy and gave her everything you could to give her a good life. I also have a runner duck, Phoebe, that's had ongoing respiratory infections her entire life. She's currently 3 and a half years old and has been on what is now...
Hi! I have runners too, and have been through all sorts of respiratory and other problems with them. Mine have an ongoing problem with trichomonas, which is a Protozoa that lives in mud and loves wet areas, and is very contagious, transmitted by wild birds. I'm lucky enough to have an awesome...
I came here looking for help with my 4 year old runner, Chloe. I found this thread and Chloe's symptoms are pretty much identical to your girl's. Chloe has had reproductive issues in the past, so I suspected that this is also an egg issue. Thank you to everyone who has posted on here- it is...
I believe it's the beginning of mating season... I have 4 ducks and a drake. The drake grew a new curly feather and promptly had to be put in drake jail. And my girls are bickering with one another too! Gotta love the duck life 🤣🤣🤣
I've been through this several times with my runners. It's probably a respiratory infection and she will need antibiotics. You can order Baytril online. Your can also try putting her in the bathroom with the hot shower on so she can breathe in the warm steam- it helps with the wheezing and can...
I just spoke to some friends who are chicken farmers- they use LAB (lactic acid bacteria serum) in their chicken habitat. I have been using this is my yard as well and it's been working out great. Anyway they said spraying everything with the LAB is probably the single most important thing you...
My problem is we have a fairly small yard... they have a pen that's 10x7 roughly, but I don't have much room to expand it. So far, eliminating the water sources and only feeding them in the pen has helped reduce wild birds by a lot, but nothing is 100%
I am in Hawaii and sadly the avian flu has arrived here as well. The heartbreaking thing is... it was found because it caused an outbreak at a waterfowl rescue and all the birds had to be put down.
I have 5 ducks and I really don't know how to fully protect them so me my yard isn't huge and...
I've dealt with quite a few respiratory infections in my ducks, and it sound like that's what your bird has. I'm no vet, I just have been through the wringer with my ducks and all their respiratory issues... these are things that I've done and helped.
She will need antibiotics to get better...
