I bought my Tylan-50 online through jeffers? But recently found a local feed store that carries it also. The bottle will say that it is not for chickens but for cows and such. Lots of people use it for their hens though.
I accidentally found out one day that putting Vet-rx in one of my hens...

ok interesting. I skimmed through this and it looks like only 1/3 to 1/7 survive into late age (7 years +). so, that means 2/3 die before 4 years and 6/7 die before before 6 years. I just did a very rough skimming. But yes this was helpful. A complete survey would be great.

I certainly had high hopes too! but am not interested in the rare anomaly. I've had a goldfish, a parakeet and a ferret that lived guiness worldbook record lives but also goldfish, parakeets and ferrets that lived normalish lives. I am wondering what the normal death rate/lifespan is...
Well my super sweet silkie just died. And now I have 4 that have died over the years of various different things and 3 that are alive. I expected them to live between 5 and 10 years but my oldest is about 2 1/2 years old. Farmers who regularly kill their birds during the winter always give...
if she is just weak, what about protein. cooked egg yolks. also what about electrolytes? You can use pedialyte for babies. Also lots of people use vita-sol vitamins fro human babies.
Saw an injectable vitamin-b at the feed store today. Can I give it to a sick hen? I have a liquid oral solution but she really hates it and at this point it just adds unnecessary stress. She tolerates shots much easier and quicker. thanks ahead of time. : )
what would be a correct dosage? She is an standard very cute Auracana and is about 2 years old. For her I can't do the crate thing because she literally yells nonstop after a day of being away from her friends and her house. After I know a good dosage I can either squirt it in her mouth every...
She's made MASSIVE improvements! : D barely sneezed 4 times last night. I am so thankful!
Today was the 3rd shot. Another hen started mildly having breathing problems so I started her on tylan also. I'm guessing that they have all been exposed so have also added a little tylan in the...
I have a hen who also does this. I also don't know what the problem is. I think it has been a month or two now.
she walks on her "elbows" but looks completely normal otherwise. If one starts giving her super doses of vitamins, how much would you give her. Also, can you overdose on vitamins?
The Infectious Bronchitis looks possible. At least it explains the deterioration in breathing at night. Au, is the sickliest of the group. There is no watery discharge but it's possible that it is on its way. Guess I'll keep up with the tylan. i think you are supposed to anyhow.
About a...
I put her to go to bed early and I can hear that the serious difficulty from last night is starting up again. So its something to do with sleeping/resting.
thanks for the suggestions Debbie.
She's eating now. actually she once again looks almost normal except for the sneezing/head jerk kind of thing. she eats a bite than sneezes/jerks her head. I go her some yogurt, baby applesauce, and a bit of cereal grain. Crop seams normal/small. How would the crop effect her breathing?
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
blue bantam Silkie, almost 2 years.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
barely able to breath. getting weak from all the effort. large open mouth neck outstretched, sometimes coughs so...
One of my ladies appears to have hurt her leg. She stuggles to walk on it and makes little sad painful sounds. She also will walk on her "elbows/knees"? which seams to be easier for her but still difficult. I attempted to put on a stiff cast which was of no help at all because she just layed...
ok, I just spent an hour reading from start to finish. What the heck was the very final result? Did the anti-biotic/quarantine work? Did you have to cull them all? Was a cause ever pinpointed? Was whatever was causing the chickens to die also causing the other animals to die? I am...
