    calling any one from missouri

I'm thinking it's about 3 hours from us here in SEMO. My poor husband made a 3 hour trip one way with me to get my Cochins, he won't be doing that long of a chicken run again any time soon lol

    calling any one from missouri

Yes I can definitely understand that. I did see a video, may have been cackle, that pretty much did a walk through on each step from egg to post office. Amazing to see that amount of eggs and chicks!

It would be fun to visit a hatchery and see how it all works! Hope everyone is doing OK and making it through this crazy weather. In the teens then 60 and thunderstorms..welcome to Mo, all seasons in one day. Swap season starts this month. Does anyone go to them or know of any good auctions?

    Dominate vs Recessive White Gene

Thanks so much for that information, so interesting! That would be nice, sex-linked Silkies lol. They are so hard to sex until they crow or lay sometimes. I'm not sure if these are dominant or recessive. I've got a new trio out together as well and honestly I guess it's impossible to know until...

    Dominate vs Recessive White Gene

I'm also trying to figure out how the silver gene works as far as white. And, many say the chicks that hatch silver/smoky with the silver gene, are not only a more crisp white, but are also male. I'm raising white Silkies so I guess I will watch for patterns in mine and see how it plays out...

    LF Cochins

I share your sentiment..so sad to see the numbers and quality decline, I adore Cochins. I do believe people go through breed "fads" and have seen it. And yes Cochins are big birds, eat alot, slow growing, so it takes someone who loves and wants to preserve the breed to keep them. Their...

    calling any one from missouri

It's been a spell since I've been here..how are you all surviving this nasty weather? I've spent hours this week trying to get rock in the muddy coop runs, replacing bedding, and put up some plastic yesterday before the cold blast hits this weekend. Good thing I like chickens or this could be...

can you use cat litter for bedding!!

I've been pondering trying the sweet PDZ. Definitely gonna give it a try, this nasty wet weather just makes the smell a million times worse, and having coops in city limits makes it a challenge to keep things extra clean and low odor!

Thank you! I'm in Perry Co Mo, abt 80 miles south of St. Louis. Sounds like you have a pretty good flock going thanks to that chicken math lol. I've had chickens most of my life & other poultry..one of my first best friends was a red hen named "Henrietta" who I carried around in a little bucket...

Thanks! Not yet..sadly I only have a couple of hens left after a dog attack wiped away years of building up my Cochin flock :-( My girls are just starting to lay again & are grandmas now so it will be slow going lol.
