High temps in the mid-high forties here, and my Bielefelders have been spending days sheltering in the small sheds with south facing side open. Foraging activity is minimal. End of day they go back to their coop (unheated). It isn’t a heated coop scenario to compare to, but they do appear to...
I'm going to buck the trend and encourage you to continue following your vet's orders. Hold off on using silver, essential oils, etc. Your duck needs fresh air and time to recover now.
Our little greenhouse got too hot for our birds and we abandoned the plants in favor of strictly using as a coop. We covered it with dark shade cloth and light blocking panels. We’re located in the PNW where summer temps rarely surpass 85F, but the greenhouse, even with open door and ventilation...
Last night I got home late and somehow failed to close the little door the chickens use to get into their pen for the night when I tucked in all the birds. Luckily the girls were safe next morning, but as I'm getting to a forgetful age (74) it's probably time to add a failsafe door to the entry...
All of my blue and chocolate female runner ducks have grown white feathers after molts - except one. The chocolates are all four years old, all sourced from the same hatchery, but one of them is still solid chocolate. Anyone have any idea why... what the genetics might be? Or is there something...
Cotoneaster parneyi makes a nice hedge and produces berries that the birds like. Probably not something kids would like to eat though. Red currants are another option. The chickens eat the berries, you can make delicious jelly, and the shrubs don’t spread like raspberries.
My Bielefelders are disappointing layers. I have five that are in their second season laying. They put out eggs well for maybe two months then production drops to one or two eggs a week total, then nothing. It's done for the year within three months! They're friendly hens and help keep bugs and...
I think you’re on the right track with that dosage Terbinafine orally twice a day. Having had a dog with disseminated coccidioidomycosis I’m familiar with the difficulties of treating fungal infections. If the species of aspergillus your duck has is resistant to Terbinafine you might see no...
Wish I had seen this thread with comments about eggs. My Bieles are big and friendly birds but only laying 2 to 3 unuepectedly small eggs a week. I'm disappointed with the breed and wouldn't get again, but like them too much to put them in the pot.
Seven years with a Chevy Bolt EV and we have no complaints. Would never go back to a gas vehicle. An assessment on vehicle licensing compensates for loss of gas tax in WA.
