Hey everyone! We’re looking into an automatic door and I see a few for a good price with good reviews on Amazon but I don’t trust reviews now a days since some people get paid for them.. so i wanted to ask yall for some recommendations. TIA

Our mobile coops that don't necessarily get eyes on them every night after curfew have ADOR1 auto doors. The maker is in the US and although these have a bit of a DIY vibe when it comes to programming (think of setting up an old raspberry Pi or something, there's no screen so you're relying on hitting the right buttons to get the right number of blinks out of the LED if you want to mess with light settings or whatever), once you get it set up - I haven't had to program anything but am aware it can be a little fussy, they're set it and forget it. The batteries have lasted us a year and a half and they just ALWAYS work. But they're $260. We have a small tractor supply coop I got to function as a maternity ward for our broody and mama hens and ended up buying a $60 amazon auto door, but that's only because it's by our house and I see it every evening when I take the dogs out to go potty before bed so if it doesn't close or open for any reason, I'm aware.

You are right not to trust the reviews on Amazon.
I now only ready 1 and 2 star reviews. Then I try to determine if the review makes valid points or is it the case of user error.

I can tell you that I bought 4 automatic doors from Amazon in December 2023 and only one is still working. Two of them were showing problems early on but I was too busy to ship them back. These are the single door which goes up and down and has a tiny solar panel built into the controller, which is on top.

Yea this is an issue with Amazon in general. Lots of reviews are either paid or from the vendor botting reviews. Sad state of online shopping in 2025 and Amazon has definitely failed to keep itself from being Alibaba/Wish/Temu reselling platform with marked up prices due to next day delivery as opposed to 2 week delivery.

Have to be really selective now and a detective cause the top results you'll get will almost certainly be trash with fake reviews.

I miss the days when the fake reviews all had names like Esmeralda von Hugelbugel and Giacomo Kowalski. Good times.

Last night I got home late and somehow failed to close the little door the chickens use to get into their pen for the night when I tucked in all the birds. Luckily the girls were safe next morning, but as I'm getting to a forgetful age (74) it's probably time to add a failsafe door to the entry.
I'd like a door that that can be time programed to open and close, and that can be installed on the outside face of the existing pen frame, so I can continue to close the old hatch (located on the inside of frame) when I put the birds in for the night, but also have the security of the auto door closing on it's own a little later. Will any of the doors work this way (specifically the mounting option)?
