It will be a gorgeous, very dark tibetan! Do you have any quail with the fee diluter gene (like Falb Fee or Grau Fee)? I have some very dark Tibetans with fee and they looked like that as chicks.
I have used an aviary for my quail from the beginning and have used every flooring imaginable! Hands down best floor is wood chips (natural, undyed mulch) about 6-8” deep. Seriously, a small rake or garden weasel once a week to “mix in” the poo and such makes keeping the odor and mold down so...
Beautiful birds!
#1 Sparkly Pharaoh (heterozygous aka one copy sparkly), looks to be hen
#2 Sparkly Pearl (heterozygous sparkly, fawn with fee) hen
#3 hard to see patterns, but has either Blau (blue) or roux and fee
#4 Homozygous (2 copies) Sparkly, homozygous Fee… would need to be vent sexed...
This looks great!!! I wouldn’t change or add a thing, they should be very happy with the habitat you’ve created! They love both open spaces to stretch and bask in the sunshine and places to hide. You did a wonderful job being thoughtful of reducing territorial behavior with the multiple...
She is a coturnix (Japanese) quail and she definitely has a Pharaoh base… it looks like she could have Pansy, possibly Sparkly mixed in there. Both genes are assumed pattern modifiers and the Pansy genes seem to be able to hide for generations before seemingly popping up “out of nowhere”. I will...
I agree with the above comments… black soldier fly larvae! 🙌🏽 The parents resemble a small wasp in flight, but they are harmless.
The larvae are incredibly useful on the homestead, best composters of waste especially poo, meat, dairy, etc and things we can’t usually put in a garden compost...
Congratulations on the new quail!! You have a nice variety of colors going on there.
Unfortunately, most of these colors are not feather sexable and you will need to watch some YT videos on vent sexing coturnix (Japanese) quail.
I do see at least 2 feather sexable colors in the mix:
Italian...
Thank you! I had fun with this. The pink-ish eggs are my silkies (smaller) and the Royal Palm turkeys (large). And my black sexlink’s eggs are tan/pink.
