    Broody Duck In The Winter!?

It is the middle of winter here in Alabama and I have a Muscovy hen going broody. We're in the middle of January! I don't understand what’s going through her mind, other than she's a Muscovy duck and they just love the process of hiding and sitting on eggs. I don’t think this is a good idea...

    Muscovy ducks roosting problem

I've raised ducks for 6 years but roosting is new to me. I am 1 year into raising my muscovy ducks. They are completely independent and live on a large pond surrounded by plenty of trees and snags. They spend most nights roosting on the neighbors dock and free range during the daytime hours. As...

    Duck nesting in the fall??

I have a large flock of mallards and 4 successful mothers that raised ducklings this past spring. It is now the end of September, and my dog has recently been sniffing around the back porch. Little did I know another hen had a nest of 10 eggs hidden under my staircase! I saw her sitting on them...

    Disappearing Ducks!!

Our neighbors have 3 cats. We had a fox attack 3 years ago and trapped it. We recently had a possum break our bird feeder overnight. Great blue herons everyday but my ducks are used to them I don’t think they are interested in ducks. I’ve seen Hawks soaring over before but never lost any to...

    Disappearing Ducks!!

I thought hawks find the nearest tree to pluck and eat right where they catch something. And would a hawk kill 2 birds at the same time?

No they’re still young and not laying yet so it couldn’t be that.

    Disappearing Ducks!!

What kind of animal would take 2 ducks during the day and not leave a single feather? I had a flock of 10 and 2 of them were missing. I would check on them constantly throughout the day and watch from the windows for predators. They were fine all day and no predator showed up. My last time...

    Duck not sitting on eggs!?

I most definitely want her to hatch ducklings. In fact, once she got up 14 eggs I removed 4 of them and put them in another ducks nest to balance things out. But she just laid even more. The other hen is now sitting so I don’t know what to do with the extra eggs.

    Duck not sitting on eggs!?

    Ducklings afraid of life!!!

Yes I made sure their swimming water wasn’t cold. When sit with them they trample each other and try to pile against the wall away from me. I’ve always heard that the earlier you can get them outside the better. (At least for free ranging birds)

    Broody duck breeds..............................................................?

Muscovies and mallards make the best mothers. Muscovies can hatch clutches of 15-20 eggs multiple times a year and are very protective guardians.

    Ducklings afraid of life!!!

Yes they run to to other side of the coop when they see my shadow through the hardware cloth when I’m doing yard work even though I’m not close to them. And for some odd reason they like the woods more than the pond.

    Ducklings afraid of life!!!

I’ve raised mallard in the past and all from the same hatchery. All of them were used to me after 3 weeks. All it took was me giving them meal worms and they recognized the sound of me shaking there food and were happy to see me. I like how mallards are flighty because we live around a lot of...

    Ducklings afraid of life!!!

I ordered them as day olds from Hoovers hatchery and they arrived the next day. When they were younger I could pick them up to show them where the food and water was. Now they are afraid of my shadow. I feed them 3 times a day on a schedule. I try to spend time with them then but they will not...

    Ducklings afraid of life!!!

HELP!! I have 8 mallard ducklings. They’re around 6 weeks old and I can't get them to warm up to me at all. I’ve had them since they were day olds. I don't know what to do. They panic in terror at the sight of me when I try to give them food and water. They lived in the house for 2 weeks. Now...
