I opened it today. The bird looked normal but the placenta was green and gross. I also had one hatching with curled feet after all the others. This is my 3rd quail hatch and I've noticed if they're late hatching, for whatever reason, they usually have some issue.
I'm assuming it did it. I didn't mess with the egg at all. Just pulled it out under the humidifier to get a closer look and saw the "heartbeat" movement.
I have quail hatching. Got 7 of 15 last night (day 18) and today I have a few more hatching. One zipped, and has had no progress for the last 10 hours. The cracked part of the egg is dark green. I pulled it out and I could still see a heartbeat, however the membrane is looking pretty gross...
I have a batch of quail about to hatch...
I've always used a heat lamp for my chicks, both chickens and quail.
I have a heat plate which displays a temp that I can change. It goes up to 158°F.
I'm assuming the underside shouldn't be so hot it burns my hand, so at around 110° the plate is...
I have an order of quail eggs on it's way and it was delayed in shipping. When the eggs arrive they'll be at least a week old. Should I still give the Minimum 12 hour resting time before incubating, or go straight to the incubator?
Thank you, that's reassuring. Since she's separated from the others should I worry about the cold tonight? It will be 20°. I could put a heat pad under her box...
30% game bird starter.
I have not seen her eat or drink. I am about to give her a little water w electrolytes via syringe.
She's pooping. Poop looks normal
She's actually improved slightly since I isolated her. The Temps here dropped down below freezing last night for the first time and I...
I have a 7 week female quail that isn't able to stand. She can't seem to walk, and her back legs seem to stay extended. Anyone have any advice? She's separated from the others at the moment. Everyone else seems fine. I don't see any injuries.
Here's a video.
I have a barred rock with a leg deformity named Stumpy. She isn't able to get up on the perches with the other girls and started sleeping in a nook in the bottom of the run against the wire. The same exact thing happened. I made her a special little house with smooth walls and it fixed the problem.
Will do.
So I have an 8x8x6 freshly built quail coop ready for them. I was going to wait until 6 weeks to put them out because it's wintertime here in North GA... what if I put them out now with the lamp? I also have a small brooder plate I could use. Bad idea? The lows at night range from 45...
No. Same feed. Fingers crossed its just the last of the weakings. Should I put some chick electrolytes in their water? I'm not sure the rule with quail chicks.
Here's the one that died and my setup. Along with a few of them eating. The cage has no walls so I have a towel covering one side. I have a laser surface temp reader that's showing 75-80 under the lamp. My phone is dying so I can get better photos in a few minutes after it charges😆
Well I just found another dead. I looked, everyone seemed fine, 5 minutes later, one was dead. This one had weird looking wings and wasn't feathering out as well as the others. I'm really hoping it was just not able to thrive. I've done I'll I can I guess. Temp, bedding, cage size, water...
